Sleeping Beauty - City lights / Music video
"Ohh so your new song is called City Lights?! I have a great idea for that!"
When I got a call from the band asking me to do a video for their upcoming single I had just recently checked out the many inspirational works of people posting at instructables.com and found my way to the amazing movies made by the japanese light-painting crew PIKAPIKA. Realizing that there was no way we would be able to do it their way (and not much of a point) we came up with our own take on it, have a look and let us know what you think!

Produced by: Benjamin Taft, Johannes Petterson, Jonatan Westman
Main photography by: Benjamin Taft
Additional photography by: Daniel Palmér
Editing & Post: Jonatan Westman, Benjamin Taft
Light-painters: Johannes Petterson, Jonatan Westman and to a lesser extent the rest of the crew and the band, a special shout out to Björn Janson (drummer in the band) who did the many of the detailed light paintings.

Doing the close-up lip syncs was an interesting learning experience. We recorded the singer lip-syncing in real time to parts of the song with a regular dv-camera. Then I removed 14 frames out of 25 for each second and ended up with a 6 frames a second (less exact) lip-sync. Then we had a laptop facing the singer, stepping through the 6f video and with the webcam on he was able to pose in a similar fashion for each still.
I would say we shot around 1500 frames and used 6 frames a second for most shots, some are 9 frames a second (the rotation ones). I actually put up a step-by-step guide on how we made this video on Instructables.com: instructables.com/id/Animate-with-light/
I realize it leaves out a lot, but feel free to ask if you have any questions. I like your time-lapse video, Hay fire.
