This is a hand drawn animation I did in January of 2005. It was for an art show I did which explored the notion of being "Half".

Music by my friend Tooru Tade.

This reminds me of Kip Fulbeck's "The Hapa Project."

This must have taken forever to draw every single frame. =D Brilliant work.

That one birth part is a little distrubing, but it was awesome! I think I told you that already!!

this is very sweet! birthing scenes always take me by surprise, though. however, i thought that yours was very tastefully done.

    love it
(could live with a faster frame rate...for the sake of constructive criticism).

    1. I loved it.

    2. It took a lot of courage to animate your mom's Vuh-Jay.

    3. I think it's cool that for such a minimalist piece, you felt it important to draw your kneecaps.
  • Mareen Fischinger 2 years ago
I agree on all three of these.
  • eat a bug 2 years ago
Hahaha--dude, kneecaps are what make or break contemporary animation.

Actually, I had never thought about that before...

it's perfect, birthing scene and all. beautiful, tasteful, and touching. i can relate, though most would doubt that.

It was interesting, cute and filled with effort, though it would be nice to see more animations that don't revolve around transforming.

    any suggestions?

  • Mareen Fischinger 2 years ago
How many sheets of paper did you use?
  • eat a bug 2 years ago
Hmmm....I think around 600 or more? I was working on it for a couple weeks whenever I could grab a moment...breaks at work, waiting for people at coffee shops, or for hours at home on the weekend.

also, trying to figure out what would happen and in what order...and the character design took some time too.

I wish I had seen this before. It's great. It must have taken ages to animate, but I think your effort was worth it, it's brilliant.
