Bolex BL8 Footage
Here’s some of the footage I shot with a Bolex BL8 I picked up last month. The roll ran 3:58, you’re seeing 47 seconds.
A few notes:
The first half of the film has a line running from the upper left-hand corner down towards the right. At first I thought it was a crack in the lens but when I ran the second half of the film the line was gone. I think it may have been a hair that got caught between the gate and the film or something on the camera lens.
The shot of the tree is from our balcony at the same distance. One using the zoom lens, the other using the standard lens. This gives you and idea of the zoom vs standard lens.
When Jeana walks in the apartment and the dogs jump on her you'll notice the film runs fast. The reason is that I shot this footage at 16 fps giving the footage a faster playback when seen on my cheap non-fps-adjustable projector.
Finally, I have to say that the quality of the recorded footage is crap, I taped this right off the screen using my HV20. The film looks 100 times better when you see it running straight off the projector.
I've loaded new film on the BL8 and on the P2. I'll be running the BL8 at 18fps and the P2 at 24fps. I'll post the results here in a week or two.
