I wanted to try some surf video with my Sony HDR-HC3 and SPK-HCB sportspack. It worked great but I missed some great waves not pointing exactly right.

The sportspack was the reason I kept my HC3. I have had it for about a year and a half and Ive used it in pools, Hawaii, now the beach. It's awesome.
I'm going to use a wide angle next time.
I wanted to try to see if I could get some surf video and my friends were happy to help. I used to go to the Wedge alot but now we usually hit creek.
I'm in a wet suit of some sort year round. This day I was fullsuited but some guys were skinning it.
Nice footage..yet again LB!
It's fun even on a small day.
There are trade offs for both. The Sony does good with vibrations like driving and POV stuff, has the cheap sportspack, and I think is more reliable in my case.
The HV20 has awesome picture quality, better auto focus, but sucks for driving type and POV videos in my videos at least. I had to send mine to Canon once and still if goes into a wierd mode sometimes and doesent want to play the videos and just has a blue screen.
So both have their hi lights and I still use both. My HC3 has been my daylight timelapse machine since I got the intervalmeter for it.
The cheapest water housing for the HV20 at B&H is $479 and a special order item.
I have read of people buying the sony sportspack for the hv20 and hit record and close it up.
I know what you mean about stoping to get video especially because it won't be of yourself.
