A 35mm lens adapter I bought off ebay. Uses a rotating disk mechanism. Went out with it one day with it on my XHA1 using a 50mm Nikkor f1.8. These are really rough first tries with it, and it's completely raw footage; only flipped it in post.

Picture of the rig, in my messy dorm room, is the thumbnail. There are some more photos if you scroll down the page.

I made the song playing too. I call it "Showersong." Mostly because I composed it while taking a shower.

Looks good but can the black edges be avoided by zooming in because it is really distracting or is that inevitable when using that type of adapter?
  • Nate Haustein 3 months ago
The black edges can be avoided, as in the majority of the clip, I just wasn't real careful this time with it. I've now found a zoom setting that works, just have to be careful not to knock the focus/zoom rings when shooting. On my XHA1, I set the "return to" zoom and focus, making it really easy to get back to the settings that work if I accidentally knock them.

i hightly recommend you mount all the system on a good rod support ... not a good idea put all the weight on the camera lens !!!
take a look at my demos on my videos ...
i have a demo of my dof , similar system ...
    bests, olivier .

heh, yeah its pretty scary as it is right now, but if you look close, there's a kind of DIY rod system mad out of a 3/8" piece of aluminum. Not perfect, but it def takes a lot of weight off the camera. I'll check out your vids-

There seems to be concentrated effort on using 35mm lenses, but has anybody tried using bigger medium format camera lenses, say a Mamiya or Bronica?
  •
  • olivier auverlau 3 months ago
Of course , i was going in this direction : I have all Mamiya 645 lenses from 30mm fish eye to 500mm .... i don t use them so a DOF adapter will be good idea , BUT ,
looking the results of the Nikon one , i don t take more time in this way ....
It would be interesting , but i have not more time to build it ... The result will be
Too dark lenses (not many medium format lenses have 1,2 or 1,4 Stop !!!)
my MF lenses are around F2, 2,8 f3,5 and are the brightest existing for this format .... and result will be More BULKY !!!! think about a f5,6 500mm for mamiya (Pentacon lens) ....
    or a 180mm 2,8 (russian one !) ... what an heavy lens .....
Maybe some day i will rethink about it .....

Hey I was looking at that adapter on ebay I was wondering how you like it? the pipe looks kind of ghetto how does it hold up? I have an xha1 too so its pretty close to the same setup

    Thanks

I actually really like it-though I don't use it enough! Not that I've ever compared it to a more expensive M2 or Letus, but it seems to work pretty well. The whole thing is plastic, but it's pretty sturdy. Just make sure you get fast lenses, as with any adapter. I'd say go for it, especially if they're selling them for $150 like the last time I checked. Its a good way to get into and see if you like using it or not, then I suppose you could upgrade without much loss at all.

i bought one awhile back. that dude STILL hasn't shipped mine out and stinks at responding to emails. I'm not to confident right now.. BTW u can dial in some of ur cam options a little tighter and get alot more outta that lens. keep playing till u learn what works.
