McKenzie Beach - First day with the EX1
Got our new SONY PMW EX1 on Friday, went out for a day of testing on Sunday and this is pretty much what we came back with...
Modified a picture profile, but other than that, just shot various scenes throughout the day and threw it together.
Format was 1080p 25fps and 720p 60fps for the slowmo...
The SONY EX1 Rules!
Cheers,
Andy
P.S - action was kind of in-time with the BG music in the edit but it seems to be very slightly 'out' in the export - oh well, i did try!! ;)
P.P.S - Just played it back and seen that some of the slow pans have come out a little jerky turkey on vimeo, i guess that's compression for you.. :(

The media cost alone is enough to stop me buying it.
I like tapes that makes good archived backup in case the HD fails.
Other than that, it looks like a cool cam.
I could never go back to using tapes now... i can't think of a single benefit over solid state.. in terms of backup, i have 2 X 750Gb drives in RAID as my primary documents folder (RAID 0 so i get 1.5Tb at super high speed but at the expense of data security) - however, these drives are the WD Corporate Server series which are the same as the military uses (1 million hours before failure)... More importantly, i have around 5 or 6 "spare" hard drives laying around, all of which are greater than 160Gb, with most of them being 320's and a couple of 500's... essentially, i have around 3 to 4 copies of my video duplicated in various places (geographically dispersed too) - again if you wanted to make a backup of tapes, well, it's not as easy as plugging in a hot-swap HDD and dragging a folder over... Not to mention, if i want to find a particular clip that i shot a few months ago, i don't have to keep putting in tapes fast forwarding / playing / rewinding / playing, taking them out, putting in another tape, playing / fast forwarding / rewinding / taking them out & scanning through tapes to find the clip i want.. with solid state, they are all here ready with a few clicks of a mouse... I think you get what i am saying... tapes are yesturday, and i still cannot think of any benefit over Solid State.
Thanks for your comments dude... and just promise me you'll make the switch to Solid state soon!!! ;)
Cheers
Andy
