    Awesome video!
When you joined the foot with the leg, you could have selected the bottom leg loop and the top foot loop, and hit Shift F. And you could hold Ctrl and drag around the vertices, instead of box select.
And Alt B to see only some part of your scene.

Wow, awesome teaching. This technique yelds a mesh that (with subsurfs applied) is pleasant to rig, texture, and animate. This is a really solid base. By increasing the mesh density a little, and adding details (like real eyes) unique characters really come together fast. This technique fills out the character shape clearly and concisely without it turning into a lumpy jumbled mess, and avoids a lot of messy deformation problems when rigged. I gained a lot of insight from your commentary. Thanks a lot!

    Great Job. Very professionally produced.
I'm trying to do a dancing hippo right now, and so far I haven't figured out the right approach. Started with metaballs, but that was a bust. I have a pretty good model, but its too high poly and crashes blender when I try to link it to an armature. I may try to do a retopo on my model, using the suggestions here.
    Thanks again!
