WHITE RED PANIC - TEASER

A few images from a short I'm putting the finishing touches on a the moment. It's a little thriller about two guys mixed up in the wrong side of life, and the toll it takes on their character and soul.

You know, because I like to keep things light.

Shot on the HV20

    Technical questions...
    only hv20 ? no lens added ?
how can you get such colors ?
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
    thanks.

I used the canon wideangle lense for some of it.

The colors is a mix of CC and practical choices on set.

Lovely - I want to see the whole movie!
And what a superb quality you can squeeze out of a hv20... Looks just like you used a pro cam.
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
Thanks Jip. I definitely milked it for all I could for low-budget short like this.
  •
  • Chauncey McAskill 1 year ago
Shot this using just an HV20, quality is damn nice from a lot of HV20's I've seen. What other equipment you had for shooting this?
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
Just a standard wide-angle add-on in certain scenes, and of course some good old fashion DIY lighting.
  •
  • Justin Adams 1 year ago
Wow, this looks "LOOKS" like Michael Bay style footage only I'm sure your movie will be good
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
    haha awesome.

Say what people will about Bay -- but he's got one of the best eyes in the business. So thanks. ;)

  •
  • Had to stop by & view this one again! Camera settings 24p or 60i? DAMN THIS LOOKS GOOD!!!
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
    24p.

    and thanks again.
  •
  • Kurt Zhuang 1 year ago
ah! you used 24p? it sorta looks 30p...
whenever i film 24p its too blurry. and your video looks like 10x sharper than mine... what program do you use?

also i would like to know how you get super super widescreen lol.
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
The motion blur has everything to do with your shutter.

    Sony Vegas.
  • Kurt Zhuang 1 year ago
what did you set it at? i set it at 1/48 with 24p, and it gives me alot of blur.

    i have sony too!

what settings do you render in, if you dont mind

and how do you get the black bars? i tried cropping the vid, but when i upload it to vim, they go away and vimeo stretches the cropped vid so its vertically stretched
    vimeo.com/1060737

    thanks!
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
1/48 is not enough on the hv20. For me its 1/60 at least.

Use pan/crop tool -- and render out to regular 720p resolution. Should add black bars. Hmm.. Not sure why it's not doing it for you.

Setting wise I'm not sure off hand. Will have to double-check sometime.
  • Hey Kurt, Crop your vid then export at 1280x600 to get this look. I did this on one of mine. It's a stupid vid but you'll get the point. vimeo.com/1056879
  • Kurt Zhuang 1 year ago
hmm. it might be because i cropped but exported in 720 or something

    thanks guys
  • Kurt Zhuang 1 year ago
i did what you guys said. all vimeo did was bump me down to normal def and give me side bars. omgggs

  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
    thanks.

no filters. all about composition and lighting, then color-graded in Sony Vegas.

And this is a very, very effective teaser. Can't wait for the finished product.

not giving away all the trade secrets here. ;) plus i plain don't remember at the moment. Play around with your quicktime codecs/bitrate. You'll get something you like.

One other thing I wanted to ask; are you by any chance a Paul Thomas Anderson fan? He's by far my favorite director of all time, and your style reminded me quite a bit of his, plus the red circles behind the title remind me of those behind Punch Drunk Love's title.
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
    Yes. PTA is a genius.

    good eye.

Looks awesome is that cine or tv setting you shot in looks tv. Love the blacks and the skintones which is hard to get right on the lil hv20.
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
    TV priority.

I wish you could use cine, and still have full control over the shutter -- but you can't.

In the end shutter was way more important to me.

    and thanks Sam.
  •
  • if you haven't heard this enough, this is incredible.
the few selected shots worked perfectly throughout..
and wow, cannot believe this is the HV20
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
You know, your hv20 test footage was almost single-handly responsible for me finally deciding to go with the hv20.

    So thanks Karl. ;)

  • Rick Horton 1 year ago
    It looks really good.
I'd like to hear audio from it though. Dialog.
The teaser sounds great but if the movie's sound
is amateur, the whole thing goes down the toilet.
One thing about the HV20, is that it isn't the best camera for sound. I'm hoping that you have great audio because the trailer looks wonderful.
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
Thanks man. Lets hope it gets your approval then.

    Soon.
  •
  • Rick Horton 1 year ago
I hope so, because it is such a great looking film.... Actually, even if the audio isn't great you can re do that ADR if you have to so ......... rock on!

  • Nathan Sage 1 year ago
Oh man oh man oh man. This camera keeps popping up everywhere; this HV20. A lot of people are doing a lot of really great things with it, and you're no exception. Fantastic shots; very streamlined. That dolly-up shot in the middle is especially impressive. I agree with Rick on the audio, although I myself have plenty of angst with audio, and I'm using bigger cameras. I don't think the camera matters so much when it comes to sound; you've just gotta get a mic up close.

I'll be looking for the finished short!
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
    Thanks Nathan. Appreciate the encouragement.

Ayz that rocked cant wait for the final version!! Im loving my HV20 now Im even more encouraged after seeing what you have got out of it. Dam that was like a pro trailer. I saved a copy to watch on my bigscreen
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
    Thanks Brian.

I keep saying it, but the hv20 is quite the little toy. If it wasn't for the rolling shutter, I would have no real complaints in using it.
  •
  • Ian-T 1 year ago
Hey Ayz this is very impressive. What got me is how clean this trailer looks...basically as good as any Hollywood trailer I've watched online. .... the colors are great ..and the scenes looked like they were shot very well. My favorite is the gun scene...the running was great also. The title work was also impressive...wow...this little HV20 is scary....in a great way. As Siskel and Ebert would say..."Two Thumbs Up."
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
    Thanks Ian. very appreciated.

rad stuff. just wondering, are the people speaking your actors, or is that some quote from a film? because it sounds amazing...
  • Ayz Waraich 1 year ago
That's from the film, from the actors. Thanks a lot.
