Earlier today a young cowbird (I think) flew into our front window with a massive thump. It appeared to be ok, but a little dazed as it figured out what was wrong with itself in our front garden. So we left it there.

A couple hours later, I heard an awful bird-screaming sound coming from right outside. I saw a crow attacking the apparently still-dazed/injured cowbird. Since I knew I wouldn’t be able to do anything for the bird, I ran inside to get the video camera to capture it’s dying moments.

OK, I’m weird. But how often do you get to see a crow actually kill something? The worst part is that D was out shopping, so I had to grab the sleeping baby to keep an eye on him while I was outside. So, baby in one hand, camera in the other, I ran up to the scene. In my socks.

Notice in the film that the whole neighborhood of animals came out to watch the carnage. Two cats sit across the street. Other cowbirds try to get the crow to leave their brethren alone. But to no avail. I’m pretty sure the thing was fully dead by the time the crow flew off with it.

    You've scared me today, Royal.

I did, however, appreciate your concise tagging system.

Didn’t intend to scare, merely inform.
