Hello. I am Sticky Sweater. This web space endeavors to shape the current debate about Scientology, anonymous, and related stories.

Before we start, a little bit about myself. I have a degree in journalism and have written for several newspapers in the past. Although I don't think of myself as a reporter anymore, I still think like a reporter and I enjoy following cases of injustice in our society so that I may better understand them.

Today, we are going to talk about the media, specifically, Scientology and the media. Later, we will go into greater detail about whether or not the media has a bias as well as how best to approach media outlets with information.

The media's coverage of Scientology has been questionable in recent years. Part of this is because they are afraid of Scientology, but there is another reason, ignorance.

Did you know, some associated press reporters can write as many as 5, 6 even 7 stories a day on various topics? It is easy to see why stories on cults like that of Scientology, are often ignored. It's because your average reporter is overworked and underpaid. These stories take time to research and provide proper context.

Since the rise of Anonymous, support has come almost entirely from independent and small news outlets, usually with the majority of their support on the internet. Although they are too numerous to name in their entirety, a few include Radar, GlossLip and the Village Voice.

There are 2 reasons why they excel, meanwhile the corporate or elite media, often fail. First, they have the time to invest in more complicated stories and their readership is more willing to indulge them in lengthy abstract articles.

Secondly, they have what your assembly line reporter does not, passion for what they write about. You need to get angry to stand up against injustice.

YOU NEED TO GET ANGRY about Scientology and show it to the world. That is how we effect change. The protest and internet chatter is a good start.

I will not bore you with a list of our recent successes. You already know them. I will say this, every time we have a media event, whether it be an important news story or an international protest, it has been met with a large increase in internet searches for scientology and anonymous.

Next time we will discuss intellectual dishonesty, and proper context. What should be the media's mission, to seek justice or to inform? Is the media inherently biased? Should it be?

I'm Sticky Sweater.
