PURE Theatre founders Rodney Lee Rogers and Sharon Graci already had their hands full with five children and a demanding professional theater schedule. Their lives got a bit more crazy a few months ago when PURE lost its black-box home to the condo redevelopment of The Cigar Factory.

During this year's Piccolo Festival, the PURE crew is on the run. It began the festival with multiple performances of Eurydice at 10 Storehouse Row in North Charleston, then tore down their equipment and packed up their risers and chairs after the final performance on Monday night.

But Eurydice was just the beginning. PURE is on the books for three other plays this festival, and had to relocate their entire company to a brand new venue on Tuesday, with a turn-around time of less than 24 hours.

Sharon and Rodney let me tag along on Tuesday as they rousted their two youngest daughters and headed to Lance Hall (next to Circular Church) to unload their gear and assemble a theater from scratch. It's a rare look at two of Charleston's most creative and demanding artists -- and not quite the glamorous lifestyle you'd imagine.
