Diary of a 16mm test/short

Monday (26/05/08) evening: film the short
Tuesday: rest
Wednesday: give film to the lab
Thursday: pick up processed/telecine'd film from lab
Friday: edit
Saturday: upload to Vimeo

This is the first thing i have shot on 16mm, it was shot on a Bolex H16 which i was testing out for my old University, which recently acquired 3 H16's. i wanted to shoot something other than just someone holding a clapper board (see my super8 test) so i wrote a 2 minute script one sunny afternoon a couple of weeks ago.

this is a very quick edit, and i had to drop the quality considerably (by two thirds :-() to get it online. i will probably remove the song and dub the whole thing eventually.

hope you like...

:-)

What a fun and sweet film I have owned two Bolex'es through the years. One was a Super 8 I still own but have not filmed with for many years. BTW, very well edited also! Great music which fit perfect. Loved it. :o)
PS Wish I could have saved it.

thanks, it was fun to film too, we only did two takes (max) of any shot we did, (because of money constraints obviously) so it made editing a breeze, did it all in about 3 hours.

I have an H16 and a 150 super. I have not used the H16 yet but after seeing this I am very much inspired. Loved it!

Very cool! Afraid i dont know much about film, cameras, etc but its got a nice 'feel' to it. Not to take away from the film itself, but i LOVE the credits!!

ha, thanks, yeah i love doing in camera credits, in the first film i showed to people when i was in university, my film was the only one people watched the credits of, and clapped at the end of those, rather than the beginning of the credits. weirdly that was my favourite moment of the experience.

    Really nice stuff.
I don't know much about shooting 16 either. Is it all just the existing lights on the tube, shot on tungsten? The colour looks so light and clean!

  • anthony gurner 3 months ago
yeah i didnt use any additional lighting on the tube. i used fujifilm 500t thats why its bright.

Nice! What lenses did you use? I am trying to chose between h-16 and a k-3.
