1. Release
This is the first footage I've shot and edited. I hit a slight problem at the export stage. I followed all the instructions I could find, but the file sizes I was ending up with were far to big. I have now got this file size to around 128MB by having just 2500kbps. I'll hopefully solve this problem soon...

This video is the end result of me following the band 'Halves' around on the release day of their latest EP (however the song does not appear on said EP). It is footage from their live instore in Tower Records, their soundcheck, their backstage 'antics' (if trying to play John Williams tunes is accepted as an 'antics') and the live performance edited together. Some of it worked well but there are dodgy bits and a notable dip towards the end. As i said though, it's the first thing I've ever shot so I'm pretty happy with it despite that. :) And thanks to Halves who were kind enough not to punch me in the face when I stuck a camera in theirs...

You can catch the band on their site at:

  • Nice video. I'm also having the same problems with file sizes... What are you using to edit and what exactly are you exporting to?

    cheers bernie,

oakridge, i'm using final cut pro, though the only editing i did was cutting footage around. i don't even remember what settings i used to export. they were eugenia's for the most part, but changing it to 2500kbps.

Keep it at 4000-5000 but make your video an Mp4, should help a lot. If you turn on downloads for this video I can open it up in Quicktime and see what might be making it so large :)

very kewl, the silhouette shot is my fave. For this being your first time ever shooting and editing, you definitely have that "touch" that can't be taught. Its something that you just have or you dont have. You got it!

He he :) your icon is a picture of a squirrel taking a picture with a little camera. That just made my day.

Great job with this :) Yea, I agree with Crystleclear, this felt smooth, very hard to do on just beginner's luck

    *thumbs up*

Oh, and if you hit the little 'reply to this comment' thingy, it emails the people that you've responded to them :) I didn't see that there for a while too - I think everyone misses it at first :P

Keep up the awesome work :)

aaahh, cheers Mike. Really means a lot. Shall probably be a little while before anything goes up to test me though. I've been watching '4 eyed monster' which you recommended, in the absence of new PP :( . T'is pretty good so far. Feel free to throw some more recommendations my way.

thisredbook. nice going with the HALVES. For your first outing you did beyond good. Sounds like you made some mistakes but you captured some amazing moments. I think we get caught up in what everyone else has done and forget about what we can do. Its essential that you do it your way. Thats what I found is the secret to creativity. Best to you man and to the HALVES.

thanks davincicode, and cheers for adding the video to that channel. i'm a lot less manly than you think though. :) By the way, in case anyone's interested, this song is called 'The little Octoberist'. I completely forgot about that. It's also not a music video as such, just a look at the release day of their recent ep.
