Chau + Dave || SDE || Seattle, WA
This is the surprise SDE that we projected at Chau and Dave's wedding. It was an amazing feeling hearing the cheering from the crowd, and most of all, seeing the look on Chau and Dave's faces when we showed it....
I'm looking forward to doing alot more SDE's in the future.

Camera: HVX200 with the Steadicam Flyer SE. We also used a Redrock M2 35mm adapter for some of the shots as well.

Can I ask - was this on P2 or something like firestore.

For SDE workflow, we went with pretty much the fastest and most efficient way to get the clips into FCP and onto the timeline and cut to the music that we could think of.
The first thing we did was found a song that would work. One with pretty good pace, etc. We put the song in FCP the night before the wedding and placed markers on all the parts where the song had beats that would make good cuts.
Then on the day of the wedding we basically tried to load as much footage as we could from the P2 cards into FCP. We placed in and out points on the clips when they were in the log and transfer window and basically chose our edits from there.
It went pretty smoothly until the ceremony footage started coming in and we ran out of empty cards and we were forced to recycle some cards and delete the footage that was on them (always a bit scary) but all went well as we had a couple G-drive 250GB mini's for redundancy.

Thanks heaps for your detailed response. Looking forward to seeing more of your work!
Cheers,
Matthew.
Couple of questions, How much footage do you fit on the P2 card?
Did you use the higher fps option on the HVX for Slow motion or did you do it in post?
I shot with a whole bunch of 16GB P2 cards.... I think 10 of them. But they hold about 40mins each when in DVCPRO HD 24pN mode on the HVX.
I didn't shoot too much overcrank footage since I like to get the audio recorded on the 24p track. But the stuff that is overcranked in the video is shot in 60pN mode. Slow-motion on the HVX is awesome. Just wish is was 1080p! :)

I can see you shoot in HD and Edit it in HD, but what format are you exporting out to show the SDE at the reception. Do you play it straight out of the notebook into the projector.
Hey, great to hear from ya! We should meet up sometime when im in Cali later this summer. Thanks for the awesome compliments, and yes SDE's are crazy! but fun nonetheless :)
The song is "Into The Fire" by Thirteen Senses....they have a whole bunch of other really good music as well. I think there from the UK, not sure, but excellent group! I heard of them about a year ago from a friend and got hooked.
At the reception I am exporting straight from FCP as Export>Quicktime Movie using all the same settings as the sequence. It works really well, just its a pretty huge file size. But if you use VLC player or even Quicktime and have 3+ GB of ram your all good.
Yeah, I just plug my laptop directly into the projector. I have also used the Apple TV to store videos on and then connected the HDMI out to the projector. It works great, but its only 720p. The laptop definitely works better for SDE stuff.

Sure thing. My contact info is on my site, provideofx.com . Again mad props with SDE. I am trying my second SDE this weekend and they can be rather crazy but I two love the crowd reactions. Weddings are not the same without a SDE.
Thanks for the reply and certainly hit me up if your in Cali.
