2. MAGIC Telescope - Time Lapse
This is the MAGIC Telescope on the Canary Island La Palma, which is a so-called Cherenkov Telescope and measures Gamma-Rays from the most violent processes and objects in the universe. I captured this time lapse during my last measuring shift. The music is from Tchaikovsky's 6th symphony (Symphonie pathétique), the 2nd movement, a waltz "with a twist". If you don't hear the twist, then try to dance a waltz to it and you will find out quickly!

Awesome Video! Must have taken Forever to film a day and night thing like that! Also Music fits perfect with the tone of the video! Keep up the good work!

this is amazing, how were you adjusting exposure?

Thanks! All of them are actually night shots, the only light comes from the moon and the stars. For most of the footage I used constantly 30s exposure (with ISO 1600). In the first part I set my camera to AV, and changing the exposure time gradually from 30 seconds to around 10 seconds.

That was just plain awesome. I'm glad you started posting on Vimeo.

Yes, I am glad I discovered Vimeo! Youtube has such a bad quality in comparison. It erases all the stars in my night shots...

Wow, your camera does pretty darn good at iso 1600. Amazing shots!

    Thanks Andrew!
If you do long exposure shots in ISO 1600 with 10MegaPixel, and you reduce the resolution afterwards to 1080i, then this also reduces the noise in a natural way. That's why I do not care much about noisy images!

Very awesome! I've been dying to shoot big telescopes. One of my favorite timelapses ever was a panning night shot at the Very Large Array.

    Yes that would be great!

This is absolutely unique amazing video.

What are those red dots at 2:08? Nuclear weapon repositioning? :)
  • Michael Rissi 2 months ago
Almost :) It's the adjustment system of the mirrors. It looks like this in a foggy night:
