*This* close to having 100% of the footage imported - and the last few days have been full of all kinds of technical problems :P
  • i like the white balance explosion mid way after you put the camera on the screen.

I had that problem before where my Mybooks wouldn't mount..but it turned out being the cable and not the actual drive. ugh..
    frustrating

keep on trucking you're doing great.

    get some rest.

remember friend, I'll be your personal life coach/fcp tech support.

    hahah

Yea :P My little camera goes crazy with different light - but I still love it.

I wish it was just not mounting, at least I could try different apps to try to get to it and fix the problem... it not powering up at all is so frustrating :(

Thanks for all the life & tech support :D *hug*

Well, at least this coming week can only be better than last week, right? Hurrah for almost being done!
  • mike ambs ☂ plus 1 year ago
*Fingers crossed* Other things could go wrong which I won't even mention out of fear of jinxing myself :P

But yes :) hurrah for *almost* being done.

    very exciting!

i bought a mybook a while back, and had nothing but problems with it, starting with the fact that it wouldn't mount via firewire. i finally sold it "as-is" because western digital was no help at all. i now stick with lacie drives.
  • mike ambs ☂ plus 1 year ago
Wha! WD didn't help you at all? That's messed up - at least they were semi-helpful when I called and said what happened...

I even managed to talk them into shipping me the new drive (before mailing mine back) without having to put the required $400 on hold... I didn't have that much in my account and was frustrated cause I just bought 2 of their drives... grr :P

Yea, my other drive is a LaCie Big and it's a rock - but *so* expensive it was making it hard for me to afford the space. But looks what that's gotten me...
  • leslie 1 year ago
nope, no help. they kinda thumbed their nose at me. it's okay, i ended up getting a good 500gig lacie drive.

how many hours of footage in total did you shoot?

and thanks for naming one of your drives after my oldest nephew, desmond, he'll appreciate it ;)

omg. i have that same drive (the one that died on you)

keep on trucking through, mike. you can doooo eeet!
  • mike ambs ☂ plus 1 year ago
Have you had any issues with yours? We have that same drive at work, and it's fine, which is one of the reasons I went with that when looking... guess I just got a bad one.

I've had issues with those drives as well; but then again, I don't think I know of a brand that I actually trust. It's just one of those things I must accept.
  • mike ambs ☂ plus 1 year ago
Yea *shrug* hard drives die, it's a fact of life :) I'm just glad I took Lan's advice to early on and backed up everything. He was very adamant about it. I can see why :P

Lost characters? Where's Lock? I hate that you now hate Lock. Your voice has changed. You sick?
Let me introduce you to my drives. This is Lando Calrissian. This one here is Han Solo. And over here is Capt Picard.

Im sorry of all the problems. This movie will be great. Why? Because all great movies have problems. And all great money makers had problems. Jaws, Titanic, The first Star Wars etc. They all became successes because problems arose, they worked around them and the movies ended being better then expected cause a lot fo heart was put into it. Those movies arent great examples I know. You just got to have faith. Im excited for you and I am excited to help in any way I can. Good Luck!
  • mike ambs ☂ plus 1 year ago
The LaCie drive is named Locke :) Of course I wouldn't cut Locke out, he's awesome. I've been trying to decide who the next drive will be... Charlie? Sawyer? Ahh! Too many awesome people to decide.

I think all movies have problems in general :) but, hopefully you're right. Although I don't know about Jaws :P Jaws is pretty awesome.

    I have faith :) Thanks!

Almost there Mike! You can do it! I gave up on store-bought externals awhile ago and have had much better luck with rolling my own. A few external enclosures and I'm set to just slide in a new drive when I need one. I've never heard a single good thing about MyBook drives, they are notoriously shoddy from what I've read.
  • mike ambs ☂ plus 1 year ago
Hey Brian :) a friend of mine, Vu, tried to explain to me how I could buy a cheap PC case and fill it with drives and make them all mirrored... it was a little over my head :)

Perhaps I need to look into that a little more.
  • Brian Van Peski plus 1 year ago
You could, but setting up your own RAID is a pain in da butt. Also, any sort of mirrored RAID setup is going to knock down your video/capture performance if you're actually reading/writing to it for your project. It would make more sense to have all those drives simply as a backup, but if its mirrored you'd have like a backup for your backup, and that seems a bit overkill. I'll try and post a vid of my setup w/ some suggestions later.

Please do post a video on how you have your drives set up :) I'd like to see.

My mybook has kept on trucking since the day I bought it. Hopefully the power supply can be replaced/fixed? and the drive itself is recoverable. Technical difficulties are the tartness of any great production. They just happen. Of all the people it had to happen to... *Maybe it just needs a new carburetor?
  • mike ambs ☂ plus 1 year ago
Hey Zack :) Well, that's good to hear - I just got my replacement yesterday, so hopefully this one's not a dud.

People keep telling me that problems are a good sign for a movie ;) I suppose they do make us try harder. Ha.

haha, i never even thought to name my drive. i have a lacie 1TB. Hmm, shall think of an appropriate name now. How much memory are you working with in total?
  • mike ambs ☂ plus 1 year ago
Yea :) at first I had them just named how big the drives were - then I realized I was going to soon have 4 drives named "1TB" :P

So... I picked LOST characters... although it's so hard to choose :) I love them all.
