I'm no fan of fast food, but this looks far too involved. Is one artichoke really worth the effort?
  • Bill plus 1 year ago
They are strangely delicious. Alot of work but well worth the occasional effort.
  • SteveR plus 1 year ago
They are a lot of work, but I've found it helps to have a wife who's prepared to put in the effort of making them.
  • Tallulah 1 year ago
    I'll remember that, thanks.

Could I just point out that not all men from the UK are male chauvinists.

That's usually my kitchen strategy as well steve, although I do tackle the cleanup afterwards.

i love artichokes. Did you try to eat them with a melted butter and lemon juice sauce ? yumm !
  • Bill plus 1 year ago
    Just butter....but lemon sounds nice.
  • SteveR plus 1 year ago
Capucha is right, lemon butter is ideal with these. I'll tumblr my recipe.

I read that Artichokes are very good for the liver.
  • ojo plus 1 year ago
Did you try cooking them in white wine ?
Delicious and some more better if you add garlic in the cooking water
  • Mister E. 1 year ago
That wouldn't surprise me Bill. Milk thistle is another family member reputed to be good for the liver.
    -I love artichokes.

In the R household, we usually serve them with lemon butter or pesto. It is a truly great vegetable.
  • Bill plus 1 year ago
    Pesto!
  • Capucha plus 1 year ago
Pesto ? I'll have to try that.

Steve, do you eat other things than Marmite ?
  • Bill plus 1 year ago
He does..... but Marmite usually features somewhere.
  •

i've been wondering how the heck you eat one of those. now i know! are they hard to grow?
  • Bill plus 1 year ago
All the ones Ive nurtured in the garden have died and yet the two plants that have been left to it, over the allotment, both produced artichokes. Peppe recommends this variety.... seedsofitaly.com/product/149

It's got to be real butter Margarine does the artichoke an injustice.
