This is a collaboration piece with Alex Itin!

It is a part of an idea in which Alex is interested "in the idea of couple who are not fixed in time or space or even "racial"/national identity having sort of loopy Socratic stoner conversations around the world." These pieces will then eventually be part of his Library Project, which is an internationally linked multimedia "Nove" or intermedia motion picture.

Alex wrote up a dialogue, and I attempted to video-ize it.

The first piece in a possible series to come?

no words, just tears of laughter joy and of course mono no aware.

Course by uploading the What race am I clip first, that adds a very touching sort of thing (given Japanese history of prejudice of non japanese asians and maybe even worse for mixed race peoples)... unintended? or intentional?

I thik I'll watch this a million more times. Best Christmas gift maybe ever)

Course now all the models and actors are Happa Howlis from hawaii so maybe the vibe is very different in Japan than it was

Having seen this, I feel it makes more sense than Aaronofsky's The Fountain (based, admittedly, only on the reviews...) Love the split screen at the end...

  • oh my, is that Niponggo? it sounds adorable. :X

    I love eeet.

Yes it is Nippongo...it's adorable and everyone who speaks it turns super adorable. It's a magical language I tell ya.

What I want to know is how come sometimes it's called Nihongo and somethimes it's called Nippongo - is there a difference?
  • eat a bug 3 years ago
I think "Nippon" is the old school way of saying what is referred to as "Nihon" or "Japan". I find the people who use "Nippon" are older people or sometimes people working in government administration who want to show a little flair of patriotism...but in the end they mean the same. I don't think I myself have never used "Nippon"...
  • eat a bug 3 years ago
Ok guys...I did some googling on the diff between the two and stumbled upon a little forum with answers from Japanese people...and they say that either way is ok!!! There was a movement a long time ago to try to get it all under NIPPON, but it never happened, so Japan has become the "mysterious" country with 2 names...however, NIPPONGO is not actually a Japanese word. There are certain times when you use NIPPON, but NIPPONGO is not one of them..it's gotta be NIHONGO.

Love it! Superb lighting and mood. Great script. I'm left wanting to know more about the two characters, but somehow the imagining how they met and where they're going is enough to make me ponder :D

This experiment in online screen/multimedia collaboration starts here on IT IN place:
    futureofthebook.org/itinplace/archives/2006/10/a_salt_and_a_battery_and_books.html
There is a sample of an earlier e-book draft availabe in the "book samples" section. It's called OMegg.

You should upload this in HD wide now, don't ya think?

And I'm sure we can do more...

I'm digging the whole Asian in the Midwest vibe if that's where you're living (I have friends who can give me the specifics...lol).
