As part of a documentary about The Harvest Fair Festival that took place in Fishguard, Wales, in 1996 I interviewed Perch and Dubdadda of Zion Train at the Hifi Club in Leeds last month (May '08). Vagabondz, the promoters who ran the night, asked me to film the performance as well. This is just one song from a great gig.

so this is from 1996? They mention their myspace? I hadn't heard from them in ages. I remember seeing them at Glastonbury the day (after?) John Major had resigned (what year would that have been?) and they incorporated his sampled speech into their set,it was a very cool moment.

    Hi Mat,

No, this is from 22/05/08. They are in Glastonbury again this week, funnily enough, then off round the Euro festival circuit. They are a very cool band.

You've been away for a bit!

I didn't realise that so many of the band were white. Obviously I have nothing against white people, some of my best friends are white.

    Hi SteveR,

Broken camera, pressures of work, blah blah.

There's a rolling collective of people in the band. Here they'd just got back from Japan and had lost a couple of regulars; one they left in Mexico City.
  • SteveR plus 1 year ago
That was a bit careless of them.

Ah, la vie de rock 'n' roll!

You did a good job with the red lights, which I've found are not good for shooting digital video. Did you color/level correct in editing?
  • 40 Watt Fantasies 1 year ago
Thanks, it was a straight shoot on a Sony PD170.

    very well captured, indeed.

I higly appreciate Zion Train! Enjoy them Live... it's much better though I have to admit that the video is really giving a nice impression of the scene.

    Best regards, Thomas

Thanks Thomas, much appreciated. It suddenly seems to have had a jump in 'views' lately. Anything to do with you?

    All the best,

I guess this has two reasons:

1st: Your video is linked to on the Zion Train multimedia site at wobblyweb.com/zt/multimedia.html

2nd: I'm not sure, but I think the video was recently mentionend in the last Universal Egg Newsletter.

    Best Regards, Thomas

    Hi Thomas,

Checked the ZT site and saw the link after posting last comment. Checked the UEN today after seeing your message, it's there alright. Still getting a good burst of views so mailed Perch to let them know.

That festival was a cornerstone in my life as i remember! a load of us met the following morning around the camp fire after being up all night in the car park where they had a caravan with sound system, not in the festival! the car park was alot more interesting, after some snotty lady asked them to turn the sound system off we continued using some portable car speakers i had and the dancing went on all night, that morning their where several casualties of the previous evening goings on several lying on the floor unable to speak properly, turned out we had all drunk the same magical elixir containing some amazonian roots, mushrooms and lots of acid which was given to a load of people that night by tony AKA potion man who looked like gandalf straight outta lord of the rings with crooked witches hat and all! we subsequently met him again in several festivals all over the UK in following years! up to his same old tricks!, i was one of the many casualties of that night! also remember a load of swansea punks there with us. What a night that was.... I think it must have been 1995-1996, don;t remember much about the actual bands tho as i spent the whole time in the car park!!lol would love to find others who remembered that night...

does this festival still happen? tried to find it a few times years later but never managed to find it again. We went down to Broad Haven i think they call it after the fezzy to check out the place after reading the book 'The Uninvited' which was a true story about UFO's there.
