The audio seems to have gottien increased during the conversion process at vimeo...TURN THE VOLUME DOWN BEFORE WATCHING THIS CLIP!

I am experimenting with recreating in 3L the "Big Ideas (Dont get any)" Nude remix vimeo.com/1109226 from James Houston, using the audio to drive the distortion and position of the objects.

All of the models were downloaded from the sketchup 3d warehouse at google. I'm still searching for a few of the models to exactly duplicate the tech that James used. (for example this is an appe stylewriter model, not the colorwriter he used, etc.)

These are some of the first sketches. Generated and recorded in realtime using the built in dvr in 3L at 640x480 pixels in the motion jpeg a codec at lossless settings.

holy crap that just about blew my speakers!!! You should have a warning at the beginning of that or at least normalize the thing to a different RMS volume.

seems that vimeo somehow pumped the volume... i have added a disclaimer to the page.. thanks for pointing it out, and hope your speakers survived the onslaught. Wish u the best with your High-8 endeavors...i had one of those once upon a time... You know, it's also really cool to explore the capabilities of outdated formats and low-tech, and develop that into a style. I myself prefer mini-dv over HD or beta. Some of the best records in the world have been made in jamaica on outdated machines held together by bubblegum and duct tape. Any format can be magic if you put effort in it. It reminds me of a an encounter i had when i was a 14 year old surf gremlin, and had the chance to surf semi-regularly with the australian surf legend, Nat Young, who came to my local beach in Malibu every winter. We were out one day surfing in 1 foot high choppy mushy junk, and i was complaining about how shitty it was. Nat turned to me and said, "You have to learn how to surf great in shitty waves if you want to surf great on the great days." I took that lesson to heart, and have used it to great benefit throughout my life. I try and do the best with whatever i have at hand, to its limits, and in result, i have always gone past my own limits. I wish you the best of luck as a budding producer, and look forward to seeing some cool stuff from your "non-progressive" camera.

    cheers,

    michael
