I got tired of shooting video with inconsistent lighting. So I bought a couple halogen shop lights. Each bulb is 500W. Careful. These lights are extremely bright, hot and cheap. Never, never, never, ever, never touch the glass of a halogen bulb with your fingers.

A telescoping stand with two lights retails for $50-$100. I bought these two on super sale somewhere for $25 each. Three settings per fixture: OFF, HALF, FULL.

Charlie, I sincerely hope you and your family have a wonderful christmas. Let your ears shine bright - and your smile even brighter...

WHOA! Maybe I should get a job writing the cheesey "uplifting" bits on the inside of birthday cards and such, I cannot see how that job would become depressing!

Seriously though, have a great one. Love Si x

Ere your path wanders through the darkest night, know you are not alone under the billions gone before. Unique and precious, let your light shine for all men. The smallet twinkle in the night sky will grow into the brightest hope of tomorrow. Shine Si Shine.

A very Merry Christmas to you as well Master Simon.

Be careful, in seasons where there are bugs flying in the night, these dumb insects will burn on this lamps, which makes a big stink.

consider buying some diffusion material to put over the lights. it will make them look even better.

I've worked with that stuff, it looks like it could light on fire in two seconds.
  • charliesteadman plus 2 years ago
Yeah, diffusers would help big time.

You can also try Chinese paper lanterns. The quality of the light is a lot softer and you can put up to 1000w in them with a ceramic socket and socket splitter, and x2 500w bulbs. Same quality as Chimera, only a lot more flammable.

    Nice those stands.
I did not find the stands but found very cheap 500W lights - $5 per piece including the bulb. But only on and off and I had to make a stand myself. Made it in half an hour with 3 bamboo poles and a piece of wood :-)
