Actually a week ago Friday.

I really can't draw vehicles. You know, like cars and buses and helicopters... which was a bit of a problem in telling this particular story. haha.

Special thanks to my dad for the tripod!

Music is Alone Again Or by Calexico with Nicholai Dunger and his band

ps- could i get a lamer thumbnail? boo!

Wow wow wow wow ! How you do that ? Each time it's better. Very very very impressive. Your narration (with this um) is really great ! I loved it (even if it's about a difficult event). Hope nobody was hurt but I'm afraid when you show the pictures !
  • Remyyy plus 3 years ago
And about the vehicles, I love them !

its been so nice watching your clips on vimeo!
I really like your stuff,,,,, tripods rule!

you CAN draw vehicles, this video is so nice, and as Remyyy I also would like how you did it. Seems to be a hard work.
  • duplo 3 years ago
It was all made on a dry erase board and i pretty much made the video backwards because it is easier to erase as you go then to draw.

and it was a lot of work! when i started i somehow kidded myself into thinking it would be a minor project... instead i've barely seen the light of day all week.
  • DJ Paine plus 3 years ago
duplo, it was worth the effort. BRILLIANT.
i love how the white balance goes all over the place too.

    Wow, that is such a cool video. What's wierd is that when I made my car crash video a couple of months ago ( vimeo.com/clip:104883 ) you made this comment;
"This is so great. It makes me want to have a car accident so i can do a re-enactment, to. Sadly, i don't even have a car so i think i'm out of luck. "

be careful what you wish for!!!
  • Buck Flashroy 3 years ago
P.S this is the 1000th video that I have liked!!!!
  • duplo 3 years ago
oh yeah! you know, when i first decided to do this video i was going to do it pretty much the same way you did but... well this is what developed. you were definately my inspiration.
  • FuzzyDave plus 3 years ago
Holy Crap, Buck! Is that how it works???
Then you MUST do a video where you are ravaged by many ample-bosomed Oktoberfest Beer Wenches.

This way, I can comment, "This is so great. It makes me want to be the meat in a St. Pauli Girl Sandwich, but alas and alack, I have no stein."

Then, three months later...BAM! Tits n Beer for Fuzzy.

    Yes.

Well, from reading the comments, I gather you're well known around here, Duplo, but it's my first viewing of your stuff, so indulge my reinterative compliments on this. I'd love to know more of your process, gear and software. I thought the drawings were nice, personal, quirky and fun, and the narration, um, delighfully conversational. I'm glad all survived with only minor incident.
  • duplo 3 years ago
    Glad you liked it!

As far as process, gear and software... i'm pretty low tech. this is made of still shots i took with my digital camera of a white board (or dry erase board). About 2500 of them. I edited them together in iMovie.

For process... well, i'm always learning a i go. In the case of this movie, I recorded the voice over first and then created the movie backwards. i only really did that because i found it so much easier to write out a sentance and then erase it word by word then visa versa. it made it a bit confusing from time to time but it worked out. the whole thing took me about 40 hours. haha... i need to get paid for this stuff...
  • Ian Lucero plus 3 years ago
"the whole thing took me about 40 hours. haha... i need to get paid for this stuff..."

    No kidding!
  • everysandwich 3 years ago
Thank you for all that info, duplo. The backwards thing must have been a real exercise in productive dylexia. My head hurts thinking about it. Sure worth the effort though :)
  •
  • CygnusX1 3 years ago
holy moly, thats stunning. The way you visualize things is so funny (for example the girl that is driven to the hospital, but "she is ok"). And your narration also fits perfectly, perfect symbiosis.

that clip made me so happy - as in the great way of telling the story, and I guess I can feel better liking this cause everyone is going to be ok! - it kind of puts a positive/personal spin on something that could be quite shocking

Duplo, I really enjoyed your retelling of this event with all of the cute drawings. I like the follow-up photos at the end, too, just because they help substantiate this otherwise completely unbelievable tale! My favorite drawing is the one of the hunky fireman, mainly because of his stubble! You continue to amaze and impress me with your talents and quirky sense of humor. But try to remember that your mother has a weak constitution. So please do not to get in any more accidents, alright? Even IF you can create a cool new video about it afterwards...

Fantastic work, duplo! You just keep getting better and better. So many things about this clip work so well.

It probably happened really quickly, but I found it funny that you were still on the phone (I don't know why, since it's not like mobile phones stop working when one vehicle hits another). With the way you tell the story, each event seemed discrete which made me chuckle when everything finally came to a halt and you then told your friend you were just in an accident.
