The End
by Fractured Radius

Fracture Radius' entry in 48HOURS 2008. The story of a man desperate to reunite with his ex-girlfriend. His carefully scripted plan to win her back doesn't go quite as he imagined it.

pretty sweet especially for 48 hours!

Impressive for a 48 hour movie, but i'm not impressed with the much vaunted Red camera. A PD150 would have done the job just as well IMHO.

This film certainly isn't a fantastic showcase for the abilities of the RED One - it was shot in a visually uninteresting location and at only 2K with a B4 lens. Also, this is the result of unmodified camera proxy files, not a 2K or HD master. Time didn't allow for that.

right I totally understand where you coming from. just like film, without any color correction, its generally pretty flat looking. Not to mention that this is just a cut of proxies. In a 48 hour film festival having time to do CC is pretty far fetched I would imagine.

We've done basic CC in the past, but didn't really feel we had time to do it justice this time around. And the flatness in this one is also due to the fact I've exported it from Avid with the wrong colour levels actually. I will replace in the not-so-distant future.

After watching your short film I agree this could have been shot on any small HDV camera and might have saved you some time to go towards editing. I use a Sony EX1 with memory cards for fast transfer to edit station this would have done fine for your project. I likes aspects of your film and the direction you were heading. Just thought the main character was lacking the desperate feel you needed. and also I would have liked to see the cuts from reality to fantasy closer not repeating so much, but in the middle with more drama.
The hostage girl was very calm some crying and screaming in the cut would have been nice. but I appreciate the time you had to put it together well done.

I've got to admire anybody who can turn around anything in 48 hours...well done and all that.

But...please tell me you are CCing this at some stage? If only to repost it here on Vimeo? Otherwise use of the Red One appears to be in vain? You could repost the CC'ed version alongside this version to demonstrate how well the Red One behaves in post or something?

I suppose the on-set stills wouldn't have looked as cool with a PD-150, but the end result would've looked pretty much the same.

Good Job on completing the movie against a short deadline. I also participated in a 48hour film fest recently and can agree, there isnt time for everything.
We made some critical decisons early on...see what you guys think.

When I have the time I will do an HD finish of the short. With a proper grade and better RED processing. Given the flat nature of our location, it's not going to blow anyone away, but it will be a lot better.

Also, the decision to shoot on RED was made long before we knew what we were shooting. With more time, I would have either chosen a more cinematic location, or possibly another camera for that location. When we decided to shoot RED we could just as likely have ended up shooting on a wide open beach or something beautiful.
