The first shots with my new tripod.
To get these pictures of one of the greatest city-parties of switzerland, i did use the HV30-BrevisFlip and the 24mm, 35-70mm, and finally the 200mm.
The brightest sun was almost gone, so only the firts three shots had a ND-Filter on the lens.
Recorded in 25P and "Spotlight"-Mode.

Schras that Merry Go Round is amazing. I am glad you came back to it at the end. And the grey sky enhanced even more. How much work did you do in color manipulation?
  • Schräs 1 year ago
see for yourself, the straight out of cam identical is here:http://www.vimeo.com/1279106

the sky was amazing, some stormclouds where drifting over the place with some special light in it.

i used apples COLOR, where i have some presets of nice curve-settings, i flip throug them and let me surprise what makes the picture more pleasing. no real correction therefore, just a play-around.

Nice mix of machine- and people-watching!
  • Schräs 1 year ago
i thought i would stick more to the machines first, but it was tyering a bit by time; to have people in the frame is realy great :-)

Schräs what an AMAZING, UNBELIEVABLE example of what proper HDV colorization can produce for HDV filmmakers!!! IS EVERYONE WATCHING?!?!? THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE!!!!!!!!
  • Schräs 1 year ago
    thanx :-)
but lets not talk about "correction", its colorizing/contrasting for fun. eventhough i am starting to know apples COLOR better with lessons from DVD etc. i am just "Curving" around to see what works on the pics.
sometimes desaturation is fine, sometimes contrast brings something in it.
i am waiting to make something with a story, cuase its realy great with what "affordable" stuff beautiful pictures can be made :-)

  • walt 1 year ago
what program did you use to correct the color?
  • Schräs 1 year ago
Apples COLOR, just using the curves in it; its realy easy; photoshop-like. i am learning more right now in it.

    A+ on the shots!

i dont think thats owen wilson? could be a tom petty or even brad pitt......the wall of stars seem to be from the late 80s early 90s era...

    wow great pictures !
The use of a neutral density filter gives a pretty result. At the moment i'm using a polarized one but nd seems to give a better result.
What kind of post color correction did you use ?
  • Schräs 1 year ago
ND works well 4 me so far; apples COLOR 4 the enhancing.

  • Schräs 1 year ago
mark, it was a manfrotto with a 503HDV-head.
as u can see, there are not so many movments in the clip; i realized that its not as easy as i thought. but i will learn to manage that ;-)

Superb work - very slick and interesting footage.

I use a HV20, and am hoping to get a 35mm adaptor asap... Could you offer any advice on cheaper brands/models than the Brevis - $1000 is a little over my current budget.

Thanks, and keep up the good work.

    jason
  • Schräs 1 year ago
besides some self-build adapters that i have stummbled upon on the web; i dont know any cheaper ones.
i have seen some ok-pictures from selfbuilt ones; but this would never be something for me.

my thoughts on adapters: they cost not much more then a HV20, lenses are cheap on ebay; the FUN ENHANCES using an adapter ;-)

before, videofilming was when i really had to take a shot, or go for something i wanted to do.
now its like going out with a camera, when everything starts to look interessting. well, but thats something you might know allready.

maybe you find second-hand adapters; like i own a redrock and dont use it anymore....
  • Jason Brooks 1 year ago
    Hey man,

Thanks for the advice - I guess you're right that I have to either spend or build...

As far as second-hand adaptors go - would you be at all interested in selling the Redrock that you don't use any more? Could it be used with a HV20? I'd credit you on all my films!

    cheers,

    jason
  • Schräs 1 year ago
I am not so sure, but i guess it will work with a redrock; i am thinking about selling it, yes. Its nearly complet, there is one little thing i took from the basplate ( a roids-clamp-thing) that i lost in the brevis set-up. i didnt reorder it, cause the shipping alone from USA to switzerland did cost 60 dollars; the part itself is some 40 dollars.

check out on the redrock-page how a setup with the HV20 would be. I have the Package with a standard-macro-lens and a HD-Macro-Lens. Its not containing the flip-module.

    contact me via
    gleichstrom{at}gmx.ch
  • Schräs 1 year ago
    BTW
some guys build and sell theyr adapters, could also be a possible, cheaper way....
  • Jason Brooks 1 year ago
Yeah - I saw the homebuild guide on the RedRock site... Sounds quite appealing financially, but also quite a lot of time involved to get it right I'm sure.

How much roughly would you be asking for the Redrock kit without the rails? I checked it out and the HV20 is listed on their compatibility page...

    cheers,

    jason
  • Jason Brooks 1 year ago
Any idea on a rough price for the Redrock? I've been paid for a few jobs recently, and am keen to get my hands on a 35mm as soon as I can!

If you're not keen to post the price online, you can send me an email through the Contact page on my website (www.Opticalism.com).

    Cheers,

I can hear at 1:01 a woman and bloke say sony video camera... this is shot on canon right?

Footage looks amazing, best footage i have seen from a HV30, havn't seem to find anything close to the sharpness and lack of shutter roll, unbelievable.
  • Schräs 1 year ago
    thanks!
your right, she was asking if the adapter also could have been used with here little sony-camcorder.
this is shot on my canonHV30; and i am so glad that the rolling shutter hasnt appeared a long time ;-)
yesterday i did shot some new stuff; on tripod and handheld. i hope it turned out as well. will cut it and upload in a few days.

WOw. Even better than you other one. Fenomenal tio! Another thing.....when you add backlight, the picture is much better, like the scene of 2 boys talking. When the little kid did the thing with the hammer, you could use a slow-motion right when he was about to hit the hammer. I enjoyed the cloudy stormy scene. Very beautifull. You need light and the light was coming from the circus or 'alameda'. Watch out with the colour 'blue'. It needs a push. And watch out that you do not use the same effect (colour curves) in all your videos.
  • Schräs 1 year ago
well, thanks. for the colors in every video: i do have now a great palettes of "presets" to step trough, and see what would be nice to wich shot, then i can make some little adjustments. this works best for me.

if i ever will do a real "story", i never would change the "look" that often. for now its just fun.

som far im confident with my tripod.

This video is amazing! I honestly can't stop watching it. Can you tell me how you've compressed this film? I've got some videos I'd like to upload but I can't seem to get anything quite as crisp as yours.
  • Schräs 1 year ago
    thanks for your enthusiasm ;-)
i export my HDV mostly direct from timeline with apples "compressor". but maybe i did this with "mpg streamclip", realy dont know anymore.
maybe it seems more "crisp" cause of the manipulating of contrast and color afterwards?
well, what cam do you have? upload something, so i can see how your quality looks....
  •
  • Joseph Patrick 1 year ago
Hi. I've uploaded two versions of the same video with the compression settings different on each.

The video were shot on Sony V1 in DVCAM.

What setting do you use in compressor?
  • Schräs 1 year ago
well, they need to have a size of 1280/720, yours are too small to be HD. cant recall my settings now, but if you download a clip of mine, you can see the data rate etc. in the information window of your player.
