Rock Band 'Spiritlevel' performing live
Spiritlevel are an Australian Band. They performed this song at the Roma Street Parklands Stage in Brisbane, 2005.
I was Camera/Editor.
Technical Info.
I used a Sony FX1 to photograph this footage. I moved around a lot and got as many angles as I could to make it look like a multi camera shoot. No set lighting just natural light (during the 'magic hour'). The FX1 stood up better than I thought it would. I shot this when the FX1 had just been released so there were no HD (1080i) tapes on sale at the time so was forced to shoot SD footage.
I planned to edit this footage with the audio that was to be recorded through the PA system mics. The person that was recording it onto a laptop though mucked it up and recorded it as a low quality mono mp3 instead of a 48khz wave file :$
So the audio you hear is actually the music recorded into the Sony FX1s on board microphone. I only planned to use it as a reference track in the future edit but wound up having to use it for the audio. You can compensate for that though by shooting not in the crowd but where the band is. Generally they hear their own music from their own speakers facing toward them, so I figured If I positioned myself near them, natural echo and reverb would be avoided. As it turned out I guessed right.
