1. "CrimeSight" Short Film Preview (Band Version)
This preview is for a short film I'm still working on (hence, a lot of "temp" FX shots). I cut this trailer for the band AWAKING THE FALLEN, which generously donated two of their ass-kickin' tunes for me to use. This preview was used to play before one of their shows.

No-budget action movie, work-in-progress. Shot on HVX200, 720P, edited in FCP and CC'd in AfterEffects / Magic Bullet. Stars Evelyn Vaccaro and Pat Murphy.

As soon as I'm happy with the full edit, I'll upload the entire film.

Looking forward to seeing the full thing. You gotta love low/no budget films like this. These are the things that really show who's truly passionate about filmmaking and who's only in it for the $$.

I really liked some of the effects that you used. And did you really have a helicopter to use?! Dang!!

I wish you guys all the luck in what you're doing.

I'm sure you're plenty busy with this project, but we'd love to have you join in the collaborative filmmaking effort we've started at rootclip.com. Check us out if you get a chance. Peace!

Wow - thanks for the kind words. I'll definitely check out rootclip.com

Side note - the helicopter is actually a $15 toy from Toys R Us that I painted and shot on a greenscreen to comp into a matte painting (the girl in the doorway is the only real thing in the shot).

Hahah!! That's hilarious! I had to watch it again after finding out it was a toy. WAY cool...and thanks for the reply, Trey!

Doesn't convince me. Buys into too many cliches. Sorry.
  • Trey Lindsay 1 year ago
Oh well. I know it's not for everyone. It's definitely intended to be more entertainment than artsy-fartsy. But thanks for watching.

Don't get me wrong. It definitely is well produced and has a very professional look. But the topic just isn't for me.
    Good luck, nevertheless!

    Really Enjoyed !

I just bought an hvx200a and i dont understand how to import 720p footage in vimeo because they ask for 720/1280 and the actual size of what i filmed is 720/960 ... any tips ?
  • Trey Lindsay 1 year ago
Hey Jeremie, sorry for the late reply. Actually, I just took my self-contained Quicktime master of the film (at 720 res) and exported it out of Quicktime Pro at the settings specified here - vimeo.com/help/hd. While it is, in fact, uprezzing the file, it does look pretty good. I suppose you could always use Magic Bullet Frames within AfterEffects and make a real 1080P master first, if you wanted, but just sending it out of Quicktime was good enough for the web. Hope this helps.

Where did you get the music in the beginning of the trailer?
The bass sounds great on my 200w sub!
    (And the sound effects!)
  • Trey Lindsay 1 year ago
I built the drum beat by just pounding out a rhythm on my USB keyboard, with a couple of cool bass drum sound samples and GarageBand. The actual song that kicks in was generously donated by a band called AWAKING THE FALLEN. The sound FX are primarily from a Skywalker Sound Sound FX library that I use for work (I'm an freelance editor/motion graphics guy). They have the greatest collection of weaponry sounds (thanks Ben Burtt).

Can't wait for the full upload. Looks good so far for a work-in-progress. It's a littlebird though, not a blackbird :)
  • Trey Lindsay 1 year ago
Thanks! - And excellent observation on the "blackbird/little bird". When I shot the live action, I was originally planning on using a CG blackbird. But it was just too big a vehicle to fit in the frame with the tiny mobile home (keeping it to scale, it was nearly as BIG as the mobile home). So instead I went with a physical model Hughes 500 (i think that's what it is) to keep it lean and mean.

Pretty sad when you have a continuity error in a preview.

(But maybe it's just something else my bad guy can be mad about - getting gypped on her promised assassination chopper.)

lol... any date set for the full release?
  • Trey Lindsay 1 year ago
I'm hoping to get it into shape for some festivals before uploading the full version online. I just hope I can find festivals that don't frown on "hot chicks with guns" movies...
