Im a big fan of Jill Scott. Her first album is always being played. What drew me to her was the refreshing sound that was missing from the radio. She had come from the place that so many people lack or hold dearly, love. In fact, her aura seems to be personified by how she dresses and holds herself. And to top it off she can write the words to the songs she sings. That means a lot to me. Her second album helped me overcome some of my own challenges. Her words in the song family reunion helped me mend my own family ties, amen. It was at that point that I need to give something back to her. Read this post:

It's been a while since I've done a portrait of her. I like this look as I think it's very fitting to her song. It's also a testament to many peoples lives. But remember, we don't fight hate with hate, That's never gotten us anywhere... ever.

Steven Lopez Bravo!!! I was very inspiring to watch you work over Jill Scott. It got better when you started to put detail in her face. But the time lapse really was effective in showing the art in your gift. Again nice job!!

the only Jill Scott track I ever heard was 'Gettin in tha way' a few years ago - she gave off that bitchin feeling of a woman scorned and ready to fight for what she desired. This painting brings back the same feelings - well done Steven :)

You should do one of India.Arie. Her music is right up your alley! By the way your paintings are great. I love the way they seem to come alive :)

  • Steve, I just came on the website and have no idea how I happened to end up here but I watched all your painting posts and I'm smiling -- and dancing -- you are beautiful and thank you for the work you do, truly a gift and inspiration -- heart flying -- blessings . . . can't wait to see more -- so grateful you are creating in the way that you do -- thank you, thank you . . .
