Using Processing, Midi Yoke, Ableton Live and 3D Studio Max Motion Capture Controller, I was able to transmit movement from the WiiChuck to 3D Studio Max via MIDI... May not be useful ^^

very nice, you should take a look at either osculator for the mac (you are using windows right?) or glovepie on windose, with these you can connect the wiimote through bluetooth and translate the signal to any midi value. although I can see that going through arduino was an interesting thing to do. Great work!

Yep, I could have used glovepie, but I wanted to format the data with the Arduino as it's just a test before wiring some servos

Not really : this way, you can capture events and use it on some prerendered animations, not realtime, so you can have real high quality rendering, etc...

I don't know that arduino can talk whith max!!
  • melka 1 year ago
It can't, but it can ear MIDI messages... ^^

i mean you combined Processing, Midi Yoke, Ableton Live and 3D Studio Max Motion Capture Controller. how can it possibly not be useful?

    You're so right ^^

Good stuff... I'm sure that someone out there has been begging for something like this... what you need to do is figure out how to record camera movement with it.
  • melka 1 year ago
Thanks. Here I'm controlling the rotations of my objects, but you can control almost any parameters. You just have to assign the Motion Capture Controller to the parameter, like X/Y/Z position of your camera.
I might make some more videos to show what is possible, but right now I'm trying to have 3DS read the serial port without having to use all those MIDI stuff.

surely the next step is to make 3ds create animations based on the realtime movements yopur controlling, a bit like motion capture and character animation setups.

    Good work fella
  • melka 1 year ago
Well, with this setup, I just used the "test" button, but I could have recorded every movement.
I'm currently working with maxscript & dotnet to simplify the process, and I hope I'll be able to release something soon ^^

I really like this. You could potentially use the innards from WiiChucks to make a full body motion capture suit via the Arduino.
  • melka 5 months ago
Potentially (not with the wiichuck as there are some problems with the I2C adresses, etc... but with ADXLs yes), but there's a lot of work still needed on the 3D max side.

Yesss i like. but, i using maya. not have knowlege for 3dmax.

whatever i use and play arduino.

I saw that some people did the same using maya.

i can c u r the kinda guy gets things DONE! big props to u 4 that.

i thought (like Mike Mc) about making a full body motion capture suit - u said there's still "a lot" of work in MAX - how much is "a lot"? any chance u will do it?

this is very interesting project - but for what exactly did you use arduino? isnt possible just hook midi output from Processing to controller in max? midi have just 16 channels right?, so there is possibilitiy in one time controll only 16 parameters? for one object it is enough, but for example controling 50 objects..

is somewhere still source code available ?

    ok i found it - melka.one.free.fr/blog/?p=34#more-34

also with explanation for what arduino and why sending midi datas through couple programs, did you already find explanation why 3ds max wouldnt read directly from midiYoke?
