Changing the blue outfit to red in post is symbolic? I see the whole theme with the camera and such. Looks very nice! :D

Very impressive, though. I'm quite a fan of your videos. I've been lurking at TFN for quite some time. :)

That's really nice work, you changed her outfit in post? I had no idea until the end! Fun fight scene too, how long did it take to prepare for and film all of that?

Was this on an anamorphic lense or was it just cropped?
  • Michael Scott 1 year ago
Just cropped slightly from the 2:1 source. Although I'm hoping to shoot anamorphic in the near future.

Did you know that if you upload a 1280x533 file instead of a 1280x720 file, you can display that ratio without letterboxing in the vimeo window?
  • Iain plus 1 year ago
To keep my 2.40:1 videos HD I crop my 1080 footage to 1728 x 720. 2.40:1 and still HD for vimeo, or wherever else with no letterboxing.

Awesome video too, good fight, awesome camera, and nice little joke.

Haha! Great movie! It's totally an homage to a martial arts film. Something like that would totally happen.

Very nice. Great choreography, and I probably wouldn't have noticed the change for the sake of the theme if it hadn't been revealed at the end. As always, good stuff.

I loved the colour saturation. Without u even mentioning the great martial art movies, I noticed that the colour saturation you got was actually the same as the old kung fu movies. A little too bright, grass is never as green as in real life and reds are redder than red if u get what i mean... Good stuff :)

Wonderful, can just imagine how hard is to shoot something like this.

After seeing it 10+ times I start to note that people in the background apear and desapear :) the problem of real outdoor shoting hehe
This is awesome, great story/idea, cool fight, very good direction, camera, edition and sound work. I loved it ^_~

Seeing the blooper footage up against the final product is stunning. I'm really trying to learn more and get better at color grading. Mind giving a beginner a couple pointers? 3 questions:

+ How'd you get the Black's jacket and Red's pants to such a darker shade of black without affecting the rest of the shot?

+ How'd were you able to make their skin tones much more "alive" and vivid? Their skin tones look way better than their skin tones in the bloopers with no color grading.

+ How did you turn the grass to a more orange-greenish color (like it was fall)?

I know these must seem like really idiotic questions, but I'll never learn if I never ask right?
  • Michael Scott 1 year ago
Sorry it took me a while to respond.

    - Basic three-way color correction allows me to lower the blacks without substantively affecting the rest of the image. A more basic, less-adjustable control would be a "contrast" adjustment.

    - The entire film benefitted from a digital boost in saturation.

    - A hue and saturation adjustment to only the greens of the image isolated the grass and allowed me to warm up the colors.

If you're just starting out and interested in learning this kind of thing, I recommend the DV Rebel's Guide by Stu Maschwitz, available on Amazon.com.
