I'm trying to figure out the pattern. It seems like all but two squares are mobile. At each step, the mobile squares decide which way to move based on the status of the surrounding squares. But sometimes the mobile squares jump around.

There really isn't a patter to this one (yet). At each step, the "active" block decides if it is going to move one step up, down, left or right. Then, if the block that the active one moves to has been set to "on" it plays the sound associated with that spot in the grid. The 2 that are moving the most (the first vertical row and the second horizontal row) are simply keeping up with axis of the active one so that it is easier to see where it is as it travels. then the first horizontal row is reserved for some different settings to change.
