Arbitrary Analog Adventures on the East Coast
1 year ago
On June 26th, 2008 I took a leap of faith and flew across the US to meet my vimeo friend Christopher. We went to the vimeo meet up in NYC, a wedding in Maryland, and a ton of other stuff.
I brought my super8 camera and shot some of our journey (which involved a lot of driving).
Filmed on Kodachrome Super 8 Color Reversal Film.

And I'm glad I redeemed myself after being inappropriate in the first 2 shots of me.
This video made my eyes, heart and mind explode, and now it's my heaven.
boys
hahaha
8mm is awesome, and relatively cheap...well cheaper than 16mm that's for sure.
Wow what a tangent. I meant to write "thanks for the comment" or something like that..hahaha. I'm glad you are part of my NYC memory bank.
i hope you get to portland. sell some dino sperm!
Karen, I don't know if my comment really indicates this, but I thought this was really well done. I can tell that you just really enjoyed your trip and makes me feel... how do you say... lonely? That's not right. I don't know, but I am just really happy that the entire trip was so good for you all.
Makes me feel like I really really need to edit my footage. Hopefully tomorrow.
hahaha
You are part of my memory for life.
uh is this the next third of our independent study? where we're going to do animation, 8mm film, and video?
right.
lovely.
16mm,. 35mm, 8mm.
It's kinda nice to know that that couldve been a reality.
However that is what I am doing for my thesis, 35mm, 16mm, 8mm, and HD.
I dont think the 8mm will be a film that will stand on its own, but who knows. Maybe.
ill hold your breath..
get that MGM glamour.
Nice video Karen, and a good edit to remember those times that can pass by all to quickly!
Yay for 8mm ;-)
floaty glitchy out of focus over exposed day dreams. hee hee
Yeay for film
yeay for friends!
i love roadtrips. as long as im not the one having to drive the whole time haha i hate driving for a long period of time.
loved the song you used. a perfect "wow those were the days" type of song
One day our paths will cross :-)
gotta say...that i guess its kinda weird, filming super8, and all, these days. i mean..when i start to watch a video like that, my brain automatically expects 80's style kinda hair-do's, or like driving classic 60's 70's cadillacs, etc. :] its just tough to think otherwise :]
i bet u could never know how much stuff u could actually capture in 2-3 minutes of film, huh? :] i bet u probably consider carefully what u film..! hehe :] damn limitations. btw, Karen...do u project the film on the wall-to capture?
The place that I order my film from and send it to get processed actually telecines it for me for about $10 so I get a mini DV tape as well with my footage. It's a really awesome place.. it's about $10 for the 50ft roll of super 8 and costs about $10 for processing. So not too shabby. :-)
Thought about just having it developed, then use my digital camera to capture the film off my projector.
I go through Dwayne's Photos (dwaynesphotos.com)
I buy my film through there too. They are nice they send an envelop and an address sticker too when i buy film so i can just stick that crap in there and mail it to them.
dwaynesphoto.com
BTW...what is that song?
I can't wait to see what kind of stuff you shoot. This was somewhat of a test, now I'm ready to buy more super 8 and shoot more coherent things when I have more money. :-)
Anyhoo, I'm going to do a transfer; but if I were to just get it developed, I guess I would go through Kodak. There's a company in New York who will send Super8 along to have it processed, but apparently, from what I read, they are incompetent (i.e. not expressing to the company that a film shot at 18fps shouldn't be processed at 24fps.) My buddy and I are still shopping around.
Best thing to do is google Super 8 film and check out places that process and transfer film. Lowest price I found for a transfer was $31 for the process (1 50' cartridge), transfer, and shipping&handling.
you're one to talk
killer.
Weird huh. haha
