Author shows some fundamentals of using factory ICE nodes for creating particle effects:

1) Simple emission
2) Add Gravity
3) Randomize particle attributes
4) Add interaction with other scene geometry

Bradley Gabe shares another great XSI 7 Video Tutorial on.

I looking forward to learn all new stuff in XSI7. Thanks Bradley. I have question also: Is that possible to make fluid-like simulation. I`m not asking the look but is it possible to "build" simulation where you can set air pressure, water surface tension and all stuf that create fluids like behavior? May i ask for this kind of video tutorial please?

Keep in mind that ICE is a full programming environment. The nodes driving the particle simulation itself, and I mean the emission node as well as the simulate particles node are constructed out of lower level ICE nodes.

Therefore it is possible to build simulation engines to drive any values you like, air pressure, magnetism, fluids, etc.

At the moment, ICE does not include a factory install fluid simulation box like the ones we see in other apps. However, samples of fluid simulation setups are currently being discussed and passed around the beta circles. I don't know if any of them will make it into the initial release of ICE, but it's very hopeful that with ICE XSI won't be lacking this kind of effects system for very long.

Thanks for answer. As far i saw ICE can "drive" geometry deformation and particle animation. I wounder if we will be able to make some operations in render tree. It is hard to ask for any example but i try to understand how deep ICE can dig in inside xsi architecture? For example is that possible to set state machine to change material ? or change some material settings? Lets say i would like to use state machine to change part of my shader (color correction nodes in it and\or texture)

You can access ICE attributes in the render tree, so I would think you could use those attributes to drive changes in your material parameters, and therefore do all kinds of interesting things with your shaders.

I would have to test it first before saying yes, but I'd be surprised if I couldn't. If I do another quick demo, I will try using ICE to drive Render Tree and modeling operator parameters.
