This is a video I created using 15 second jpeg movies from my old point and shoot camera, pieced together in AfterEffects. It was shot around my old home in Woodstock partly on foot, on bike, leaning out of the window of a car, and on the train traveling from Poughkeepsie to NYC.

This one means a lot to me for very personal reasons. Hope you enjoy it.

Hey Adam... wow, watching your video was super strange. I noticed a lot of the patterns that I had created for Sad Song in there, but I really like what you did with the criss-crossing lines. Also watched your reel... great work, man!

I like how you used such lo-fi material to create something so technically stunning. I guess the lo-fi material actually forced you to use a 5 splitscreen. Fantastic!

That's such a fine piece of work, Fredo. I've traveled that route along the river from Poughkeepsie to Manhattan many times, but now in my mind's eye I'll always see it as you saw it. Fine, simply fine.

Thanks folks. I really appreciate all the encouragement! :) As I've mentioned, there's a live version I did called The Sad Song di Bra. It's an octagon shape in a circle. You can watch it here, but it's best to view on my interactive website where the video can be turned. theturn.tv It's the dark circle there.

sound kinda like religious praise songs to me. ..is that good/bad?
  •
  • Fredo Viola plus 3 months ago
The song was written after the death of my father, which is why I called it the Sad Song. Actually, it was a kind of ritual to bring my emotions up. Perhaps that's why it sounds "religious" to you, Franc L. I'm not religious myself, nor do I consider this song a "religious praise" song! But generally I do bow to the power of music. :)

I like that Vimeo Staff made this jump so much in such a little time. It went from 17 views to almost 3,000 in two days!

Wish they would do that for one of my videos... but apparently they have to be GOOD

A beautifully fitting, innovative marriage of sight and sound. I wonder, though, why you use 'sad' in the title - the song feels more uplifting to me than anything else!
  •
  • Fredo Viola plus 3 months ago
I'm glad you feel that way, Marc. It's called The Sad Song because it was finished after the death of my father.
