I'm simply running out of time to be creative, which makes me want to scream.

I'm getting the pre surgery jitters. This stupid pink surgical band around my wrist isn't making it any easier either. It's a constant reminder that in just two short days I'm going be sliced and diced and in tons of pain very soon.

let's hope the drugs are good.

site note... i uploaded this late. surgery is monday, so i really only have one full day of mobility left.

You know, you could always just strap sponges to the bottom of your feet and skate across the floor. I've heard that works well.

WOW your house is gorgeous, and spotless. You are very prepared.

I have to start doing the same in my apt. My dad moved in with me 3 years ago after his tripple bypass and he is not doing to good. he is going in for surgery soon. he is getting another vascular stint and i am a little worried this will make his 4th in 6 months.

Your vids are helping me through this because you seem so strong and brave and if you can do it then i know that i can too. thank you so much for making the vids.

sorry for dumping my problem on you but i had to tell some one. i haven't even told my friends or business partners.
  • VendelasCity plus 4 months ago
Tamma, I've been there. Stay strong! Tell your dad lots of jokes! Distract him, it works!
  • Dan Huston plus 4 months ago
Hey Tamma - these vids are great aren't they? My Dad had a quadruple bypass last year and it was the toughest time of our lives. He also has to have stints coming soon and that will be no fun as well. Stay strong - you will make it through and take Wendy's advice - that's what we did and although laughing hurt for him, it kept him feeling like everything was ok in the world.
  • Loonachic plus 4 months ago
    HI Tamma,

You're not dumping at all! I'm glad you commented about it. and i'm really happy that this series helps a little :-)

hang in there with your dad.

Wow, you are like, overly-prepared! Michelle, I have the feeling that your recovery won't be as rough as you might think. After I had my ovarian cystectomy in 2006, I was surprised that I didn't need to take that much pain medication. The worst part was being totally wiped out for a few weeks (anesthesia does that). I'm feeling optimistic for you! You'll be fine :)
  • Loonachic plus 4 months ago
    i'm a control freak to a fault.

and i hope you're right! i wanna be back in action like NOW!

    bwahahhaha that mop sucks!

dood, what house track is that? sounds super familiar...

aw girl, yer gonna be fine. im not sure how they are going (trans vag or trans abd?) but ask for subcuticular sutures with steri-strips. when they close you, those are the best! they are sutures that run the inside walls of the incisions (versus simple sutures which bite from the outside of the wound) then you pull the ends (like a drawstring) and your incision site slides nice n easy together, leaving almost NO scars on the outside from the suture. dont just mention you want this to your GYN, tell the WHOLE surgical team when they get you prepped for anesthesia, because there is a good chance your GYN will do the procedure and leave half way thru closing your final bits up. (MDs usually do that) So, the first assist (sometimes PA, sometimes MD, sometimes DO) will usually do the closing. remember: SUB-CUTICULAR with STERI-STRIPS! (steri-strips are just fancy tape bits that will reinforce the sutures and stay on 2-3 days because the glue is just that good)

oh oh and try not to go ape shit with fresh garlic in the next couple days. 'tis a blood thinner. no aspirin either. (thats an anti-platelet that should be discontinued like a week before surgery because the half life on platelets is like 10 days i think.)

oh oh oh and tell them you want Venadynes. those are cool "boots" that wrap round your calf, inflate and deflate periodically, as dvt (deep venous thrombosis) prophylaxis. you really only need them if you have a bleeding disorder, history of smoking or estrogen containing contraception use, or if you are not going to be movin around much (which i assume will be your case for 1-2 days) PLUS they feel cooL! free leg massages cmon!

sorry to run my overflowing brain at you. (thats how it feels at least) i've assisted on a few hysterectomies - they are pretty straight forward and shouldnt get complicated. if the surgeon is nice he will find your appendix and gallbladder while hes there (why not? its good to check how they look and fun too) and he/she will yell at whatever medical student is observing the case "hey! student! what is THIS?!" and the nervous student will go "er um looks like the appendix (thinking why in gods name is this guy showing me that)" and the surgeon will go "damn right" and the student will go "phew"

oh and if they go laproscopic (camera in the belly) ask for pictures! (if you want pictures of your innards that is... who knows, could make a great christmas card)
  • Cameron Christopher 4 months ago
Oh man, I totally vote for getting pictures. We have pictures from my mom's colonoscopy and they're so pretty and pink... haha.
  • Loonachic plus 4 months ago
great great great! thank you for this. i will print this out and take it with me so i don't for get what to ask for. THANK YOU!

i hope to be able to update, but it might be a week or so until i can get around or even think about walking up steps.

I love your home! I have drugs and O+ blood if ya need them. I'm recovering from my 2nd knee surgery 10 days ago. Maybe I should have done some Vlogs since this is my 2nd summer in a row laid up for the SAME thing. LOL At least the hosp. stay is down from 5 days to 2! Good luck tomorrow.

  • Laura B. Dahl 4 months ago
I had good drugs after my surgery. You will, too.

I can't believe how much preparation you are doing. I think I packed a couple of t-shirts and sweat bottoms, oh and some lotion. I didn't prepare my home at all.

You SHOULD walk and move around starting a couple of days after your surgery. You will heal a lot faster, and it prevents other problems like blood clots in your legs. Your doc will tell you to get off your butt.

Good luck! You will be fine and it should actually be a good experience. It was for me and my friends who have had the surgery.
  • VendelasCity plus 4 months ago

    G'Day kido!
Well it's monday afternoon here Down Under in Aussie land, and I will be thinking of you later tonight as you are heading off to hospital. God the poor nursing staff won't know what's hit them, you'll keep them on their toes girl. You should take your camera with you and do a per surgery vid... just before they wheel you off????
Don't be too nerves Mate, you'll be JUST FINE!
    I'm think of you Mate.
    LOTS OF LOVE

Michelle again seeing these late, but I've done my share of couch recovering before, just ending one a week ago, and it sucks. I'm sure you are more patient then I am which will help a lot. I'm not a fan of painkillers, but due to them realized recently that Quacky duck is a genius, so if you have to take them check out Tiny Toons again, and see if you agree.
