Good job! Very well done. You are going places dude. Keep at this and I will see you on the big screen! Honestly one of the best story driven videos I have seen on this site. Nice sound too. what kind of microphones did you use?

It got me. A very simple but gripping story. I watched it for the simple reason that I'm purchasing a Canon XH A1 and wanted to see it's capabilities and you've shown me that I made the right choice. Thanks for the vid. I really enjoyed it. Ed Rambeau

that ending gave me goosebumps! didn't see that coming, nice job with the camera work and story and sound (what did you use for mic, lavelier? for the wide shot playing baseball?)
  • Brandon Freeman 1 year ago
Thanks! For the entire film, we used a standard shotgun mic (don't remember the model number). For that wide shot, the mic is hidden behind the big bush, and we ran a 100 ft cable down the hill, around the talent and to the camera on the other side of the yard.

Great storyline. I'm really impressed with the sound you managed to get with a shotgun in the bushes!

Once I got passed floppy haired Dan, and his absurdness. I really enjoyed it. The ending was actually touching.

So I just watched. . .. and enjoyed The Baseball. I finished it wanting a little more resolve, which is a good thing. Now I have something to think about the rest of the day. I have owned a coupled of A1's now and think its the best camera out there under 10K not named RED. One question: I too am an aspiring filmmaker but have found myself in a rut doing commercial work and such trying to finance film, how long did this take and where did you find the time to complete this project?

I'm sorry I missed this comment and didn't reply earlier. Regarding your question: I wrote this script in one night, then had some friends look it over and critique it, made changes, and found a friend to direct it while I focused on shooting and editing. There was no budget for this (I own the camera, and networked with everyone else for sound/lighting/location needs). Everyone donated their time.

I would suggest networking with others in your area. Learn to move beyond the one-man team concept (I don't know if that's where you're at, but that has held me back for a long time - I can't do everything and be successful).

By connecting with others, getting involved with their projects, you will start collecting a group of people that will be just as interested in being involved with your projects. Keep at it! :)
