This is a beautiful idea! I'd love to see a version where you come and go through intersections, rather than just meeting up at the end. It looks like that might have happened on the subway here, but it's hard to tell.
  • kitschpatrol plus 1 year ago
Thanks! Three paths merge into two at the middle, and then the remaining two meet at the end — but it would be interesting to see some intersections. I put this together in the days before Google Street View, but now it might be interesting to build a more intricate, generative redux with their data and some code.

Besides my friend trevor's work, this is the first real art I have seen on vimeo. This is the real stuff!
  • vade 10 months ago
The piece was interesting, but, are you serious? The first real art you've seen on vimeo? Jesus christ man. I cant disagree more.

    oh!! coool!

Did you edited this using convenctional techniques?
  • kitschpatrol plus 1 year ago
Thanks — it was shot with a still camera, and the frames were interleaved manually one at a time.

  • I'm dizzy...and I like it!

    nice.
i would suggest you try doing it again but putting a narrative also. something happening to the people who take these paths.
  • Bevan Goldswain 1 year ago
a valid point. story story story is what I keep telling myself. Story is king, and you're right, put a narrative to this and it will jump from being a great technique to true genius.

really well executed, especially the ending.
  • Bevan Goldswain 1 year ago
Yeah I'm with you, the ending was what made it.

This is mesmerizing and amazing at the same time.
You try to focus on one location but you get caught up by the other very quickly.

i'd love to do something like this for an intro to a video i'm doing. wanna give me some idea on where to start with this?
  • Bevan Goldswain 1 year ago
Hello Jesse Peak, I think it's just individual frames from still camera manually cut together. Picking the right music is key.

Thanks. I didn't use every frame, but I was working from a pool of 4340 stills.
  • Clintus McGintus plus 1 year ago
oh wow, that was all stills? I just thought it was all video and you just pulled so many frames out. Bravo.

I thought I was a pretty good multitasker - until I saw this! :D Intriguing concept - brilliantly executed.
Thanks for all the hours you must have put into this. It's really something. I can't help but think that someone's going to steal this idea for a commercial & lace it with subliminal product placement :)

Absolutely wonderful. Loved every frame of it. Thanks for going through all the long hours and hard work to make it. I don't think it needed a narrative. The visuals and music were enough to convey feelings and thoughts
  • kitschpatrol plus 1 year ago
Thanks — that was the idea. I thought the visuals were enough without narrative clutter.
