Ship Simulator Professional 2.0 - work-in-progress
1 year ago
This video shows some of the functionality of Ship Simulator Professional 2.0: the option to transmit data from the game to another software program like a navigation tool, or to an external navigation instrument.
This is done using the standard NMEA 0183 protocol, running on either a serial (RS232) connection, through ethernet, or through a simulated serial connection on the same PC.
In the video, we run ShipSim Pro on a PC with two 30" high-resolution monitors (each at 2500x1600 pixels resolution). The left monitor runs ShipSimPro, and the left monitors runs a chart navigation program, Coastal Explorer.
The result is that you can use ShipSimPro as a teaching and training tool at maritime academies and nautical schools.
You can also use ShipSimPro for a compelling and attractive exhibition stand.
Live capture in HD 720 format.

I believe no modern consumer or professional simulator can get away with single screen visuals anymore in a time with multi head graphics cards, Matrox Triple head2Go and cheap LCD screens.
I like to invite you to this video ( vimeo.com/1560958 ) which shows virtual windows onto a 3D scene. The virtual window concept will allow you to simulate a far more realistic bridge using multiple screens where the screens are detached from the 3D visuals on them. A limitation is that it will only work for a single observer.
