the combo of the 256 and mlr open up so many creative possibilities, i'd hardly call it cheating.

I don't understand the "4 channels" bit, will someone explain that to me?

@jacob: the software he's using is called "mlr" (written with max/msp). within the standard version of it, there are four channels of audio. each is a grouping of the rows on the device; which are themselves loops. so with four, you can only play four loops at once.

what he's discussing is that people in the monome community, using mlr, have wanted more than four loops at once and have modified mlr (or created new software) to do just that.
