This is sort of a combo of two Vimeo projects. The Vimeo portait and "What I did at Work". Music is Air...no I mean that's the name of the band.

More detail on the drawings, etc. here:

Yeah, i became very emotional watching this
  • Alex Itin plus 3 years ago
I was emotional while making it, so I'm glad that some of that feeling might translate through all those layers of media.

this is the weirdest, most disturbing, but also by far the most powerful clip i think i've seen. on any video sharing website. this is the kind of thing that separates vimeo not just from youtube, but from metacafe or viddler or any other videosharing website...that and the fact that we're all telling you how much we lvoe it.
  • Alex Itin plus 3 years ago
wow thanks... I was puzzling about You tube after Remmy's comment - I did a word play on you and tu (the French informal "YOU") and that brought to mind: You Tube... I was thinking that this sort of video would totally flop on the tube... It seemed more about vimeo (and also some Flickr types).

  • Can I add myself as part of the Cast?
  • Alex Itin plus 3 years ago
sure... you are now. After being in a droubt (umm... drought... doubt) of comments for a long time, I'm finding the response to this piece almost as interesting as whaever reasons I had for making it. Seems part of the work.
  • Thanks for letting me be a part of this.

Wow! that was really amazing. Beautiful.

    Humbling.
  • Alex Itin plus 3 years ago
I don't know, I find your clips often humbling.

    This is beautiful.

I think we should all add our names to the cast.

And I am definitely the one running away. Yes, it is me.

    I think so too.

Alex, Thank You. Truly wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing this. Wow.
BTW, I'm the skinny bald guy in the front left. I never hide in the back unless I'm being really mischievous.

hard with that hat on....I actually toyed with the idea of putting a hat on someone in the crowd, but instead I had just one person with their hand raised (can you spot him? ....he's on the blog page). Not sure if he's me saying hello to everyone, or just the one guy who has the answer to the question.

That music is in Lost in Translation, and I think it's by "Air Bomb", not Air... I thinks

Great drawings, brilliant video, love the overlapped narration. I found me!
  • Alex Itin plus 3 years ago
I'll look into that (it says only "Air" in i-tunes)... an air bomb would be a terrible vibe as that is the largest non nuclear bomb in the American arsenal and would wipe out our little crowd... well fuel air bomb actually... still, I vote for fresh "AIR".
  • Daniel Hayek staff 3 years ago
It's by Air, the French electro lounge group
  • Dan 3 years ago
Hmm weird. that means that my Lost in Translation CD import into iTunes was wrong. I'll go change it :)
  • Alex Itin plus 3 years ago
I am by now convinced that AIR is the name of the band... but Air bomb does provide an interesting thought about crowds.

This sort of content makes me glad that vimeo exists. People making stuff to share.

The track is AIR - ALONE IN KYOTO off the album Talkie Walkie.

    Props.

Wow this was thrilling to watch. I love to see people's processes and you are such a sure-handed, talented artist. Watching you flip those pages to reveal/create all the people...I've never seen a better use for those Japanese style sketchbooks. And the music...and the narration...I could just go on...I don't often sing the praises of vimeo, for fear of sounding like the un-objective proud mama; but DANG, I've just got to say that this is such a perfect illustration of how vimeo facilitates magic.

p.s. I found myself at :43, right side, so I'm adding myself to the cast.
  • Alex Itin plus 3 years ago
I want to make some more of these scrolls, and I imagine i could make "better" drawings, but the moment, documented and responded too, is something really magical that can't be repeated and seems as much a part of the artwork as ink or paper.
  • Alex Itin plus 3 years ago
I'll be damned that is you at :43!

Beautiful. It's a piece of art wrapped inside a piece of art wrapped inside a piece of art. So many layers of creativity!

If I could click "Like It" a million times, I would. Actually, I guess I could click "Like It" a million times...I just hope it would end up on "Like It," you know what I mean?
  • Alex Itin plus 3 years ago
You mean you like it, right? but sometimes after too much coffee I go from like it right to don't like and have to click it back... so I do know what you mean.

  • Alex Itin plus 3 years ago
was hard coming up with words describing my feeling... Tried twice... combined both ... and thus the overlapping tacks.... I wasn't sure what I was up to... but I was trying to draw you.
