HV20 Test With and Without RØDE VideoMic
I just got my RØDE VideoMic about 3 hours ago (Mono not stereo).
I decided to make a comparison test between the RØDE mic and the on-board HV20 mic as an excuse to use it right now.
It's all pretty unscripted and done fast. I don't' work well in front of a camera, so this is the best you get lol.
I did not edit or do anything to the audio portion, beyond attaching the RØDE Mic. (I just screwed around with the video part. It looks like crap because I didn't care really, Sorry)
-Settings are at:
.0db
.test with high filter and flat filter settings
.Volume on HV20 set at 75% volume level
.Windscreen setting on HV20 is turned off (Does this automatically obviously)
The outdoor test shows how sound is while an AC is running to the left side of me. as the camera moves.
You can still hear some noise from the HV20. it's MUCH less compared to the on-board mic. I also didn't adjust much for settings beyond just hooking it up to see how different it was.
Also it would work better on a boom poll instead of attached directly to the hot shoe of the camera as that's not the ideal place for a mic when going for best sound anyway.
Most people don't care or already know the comparison between the 2. But, For those that are interested, or wanted a comparison of with and without, Here ya go.

Shipping was great. They shipped it a few hours after I ordered it.
No it doesn't show. The footage above was with no zoom.
Also did you turn on mic attatchment or leave it off?
Please answer because im shooting a film tomorrow and ive tested myself and its been a pain trying to figure it out!
I am at work right now so I will have to check when I get home but I am pretty sure I have the Mic Attachment turned on. I remember one way I got horrible noise picked up on the mic and the other way I did not but it was much quieter too. I am pretty sure I have it turned on though.
I won't be off work until around 5 tonight (central time) but I will post up then when I can look at the camera and check for sure.
I use it too on my HC9 and it is much better than the onboard mic. In windy situations the dead cat is a great help and you can record audio without bad wind noises...
best wishes, edgar
