Twin Peaks San Francisco Sunrise (HDR time-lapse)
This was an HDR time-lapse from Twin Peaks. It was a glorious moment because mother nature was behaving, unlike the last 2 early morning efforts where I was too fogged in. I was also shooting with my new Nikon D700 and a new 14-24mm ultrawide which is just a great combo since the D700 is a full frame camera!
Music is RJD2's remix of Astrud Gilberto's, Gentle Rain. ABC News here in SF did a cool little piece on My HDR Time-lapse work- You can see the video here: abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/drive_to_discover&id=6362682
I also have my work flow for this posted here:

I'm new to all this stuff and I learn from people like you..so really, thanks so much!!! :)
These time lapse videos always intrigue me =)
This is cool sh#t.
Try a longer one.
you really captured the magic!
- The movie is flickering a bit. It looks like there are frames with a different exposure sometimes. Do you know why is that? Have you tried to fix it?
- If you are only bracketing +/- 2EV, can't you just shot 1 RAW and generate 3 jpeg images from there? I guess the RAW has a bit broader dynamic range so it should be possible. Or load the RAW directly to Photomatix?
Thanks
how did you get to this location?
i feel like i can see my apartment in the shot.
The film draws you into the screen, very good idea, nice job.
FLICKER! the old digi timelapse problem, probably caused by the camera only being able to alter the exposure in 1/3 stops as the light increases.
the other problem I get with my Older and cheaper lenses is caused by the apeture leaves 'parking' in a subtly different position at each exposure because the lens stops open between frames
if you use an old manual Nikon lens and partly take it off
(just to the point where the apeture shuts down to where you have set it) the flicker will go. (if it's the lens that is causing it ) you can make it safe by drilling a hole in the rear metal surface of the lens about 5mm further round from the current hole ( the hole that the locking pin clicks into when you put the lens on)
problem is you'll then have to shoot the whole thing on manual and the pain of a 3 hour manual stop pull timelapse should not be under estimated (I've done a few)
I'm also not sure this will allow the Bracketing function that your HDR needs,
so I Reckon you need a software program that will smooth out the exposure.
a question, how do you set the exposure? is it metering off the ground?
I think you need a big heavy tripod, or some weights
this stuff should be making you some money
keep up the good work,
Phil
