Heave Ho
After shooting at Horseshoe Curve for most of the morning on June 21, I relocated to Cresson to grab lunch while viewing the trains from the observation deck across from the helper station. While returning to the deck with lunch I caught the tail end of a 3-way meet. The last train in the meet was moving much slower than the others, but I still had to hurry to the deck to catch C40-9W 9393 and SD70 2518 crawling away eastbound on a long string of loaded Pennsylvania Power & Light coal hoppers.
As the engines threaded the switches to cross over to the eastbound track, another headlight appeared over the hoppers - SD40-2 helpers 3350 and 3357 were shoving hard on the rear of the train to keep things moving. The whine of their turbos mixed with the pulsing exhaust made for a great show as they passed in front of the camera and then throttled out onto the mainline.
