Under the blue skies at Willamette National Cemetery on Friday, the bagpiper, bugler and the riflemen honored the service and sacrifice of Pvt. Tan Ngo, a 20-year-old Vietnamese American soldier from Beaverton. The governor and an Army general paid tribute to him with a few well-chosen words and then presented medals and folded flags to the solemn family seated in the tiny chapel. His life was short, the governor said, but it was "powerful and consequential."
