I love these shots of the crowd at 2:32-3:01.
It fits so so well with the music.
  • wow, that's a real compliment, especially coming from you, Remyyy. (if anyone reading this hasn't seen Remyyy's clips, go watch them, immediately, haha.)

yeah the dancing was the most fun!
but this clip makes me a bit scared about those very crowded places in tokyo. i will totally get lost when i'm there.
  • nah, it's actually very safe, here. i was just moving my cell phone around to make it seem more crazy and blurry than it actually is. promise.

it is weird how watching this now makes me feel so different than back hen.
very melancolic, especially the part when shimi crosses the street in shibuya. i walked there so often when i went to your place in shimokitazawa.
    i miss japan!

    Awesome!!
what do you work with in tokio?
    japan looks fantastic
  • i teach kids.

but Shimi, the STAR of the video, is a "salaryman." He's a headhunter, so his job can be intense and stressful, and so he needs to dance sometimes after work. it's awesome.

I think dancing around like that is mandatory in any situation.
  • the problem is that we live in a world where, unless you appear to have some "reason" to be dancing (e.g. a friend videotaping you), people will not smile or join in. they will assume you that there is something wrong with you.

same goes for singing by yourself in public, hopping, skipping and even laughing and smiling.

it's just not considered acceptible behavior to do these things, and it really saddens me.

i do the little bendy-knee dance when i walk in manhattan by myself.

saturday night was new order in chinatown - i wonder if other people could hear my music, would they dance with me?

in my head, i imagine they do. spontanious dance party on canal street while waiting on a red light...

yo yo yo, chap! Doesn't saying that he's a head hunter blow his cover or something? or does he still use the pseudonym?
  • oops, i mean shimi isn't a head hunter!

That was surprisingly engaging all the way through. And you shot it with your cell?
  • yeah, man...the cell phones here are nuts. i'm really getting into this cell phone video thing...it's kind of like a new artform, and i'm practicing videoing myself with it, too. i think there's a lot of potential for cell phone vids...especially ever since i lost my camcorder.

Yeah, I'd love a cell with competent video capabilities. What holds me back most from videoing constantly is my lack of a constant camera companion. A cell phone with video would solve that. I mean, I always carry my phone.

    Always.

Awesome. I love it when people really let go like that. I also really like how you've edited it, the way it's cut to the music and also the preview clips of him dancing. Brilliant!

I also think it's quite apt that his name is Shimi and he likes dancing.
  • Thanks, Buck! Yeah, the man was born to dance.

I find it amazing how those headphones stay in his ears, they most definitely aren't iPod headphones, which fall out my ears if I am standing still. (I don't have an iPod, but I mean those kind of headphones in general.) But if they are iPod headphones, then you have some major skills Shimi, or I am just someone who can't handle the challenge of small headphones. I'll go with choice number two.
