2. DOT MATRIX REVOLUTION*
'BOW BEFORE THE CLOUD!'

Following an early morning status check of their vintage electronic equipment, two computer engineers "throw down" in an awkward dance-off that innacurately echoes the development of information technolgy and the internet from 1951 up to the present day (!?). The film features a catchy jingle by pop impresario Jim Guthrie. This is the second film by SUPERBROTHERS.

* : The point at which a given species cedes planetary control to robots or machines.

Your animation films are tops. Outstanding work not only on developing and sustaining such a unique and coherent aesthetic, but also on teasing so much expression from such simple geometric forms. That's challenging, and made to look simple here.

THE CLOUD SPEAKS: (quoted from comments on metafilter) "Lame. Stupid. Fail. The depiction of Computer Systems of each period are so innacurate as to be totally misleading. And the Clone clip lost me with one word in the description "neoconservative" (what does THAT have to do with business executives?) The "pixel-art" style was excessively artsy-fartsy and I'm asking laughingsquid (which usually doesn't steer me wrong) for my 6 minutes back." wendell.me/

it's true, the depictions of "Computer Systems" aren't entirely accurate

    THIS JUST IN :

Jim Guthrie has posted seven (!) of his playstation 1 compositions, including the composition for DOT MATRIX REVOLUTION (aka popcorn pt.2) and an alternate take on THE CHILDREN OF THE CLONE!

if you like SUPERBROTHERS films, you'll LOVE this music. these musical compositions are where the films began for SUPERBROTHERS.

don't miss the spooky 'economica', the cozy & friendly 'little furnace', the comedically maudlin 'jimmy's lament', the heartbreaking masterwork known as 'roomful of empty people' and the beautiful and lush sound-world of 'under a tree' - this is an unbelievably generous gift from the maestro himself!

THE CLOUD SPEAKS (quoted from comments on digg):
"Lame on SOOOO many levels. Not even deinterlaced properly, which is amazing considering it's trying to look 8-bit. I was wondering how this crap got voted up, then saw, of course, Mr.BabyMan's fan army voted it up."
  • superbrothers 1 year ago
to mr.babyman's fan army: we come in peace
  • Myk Dawg 1 year ago
lolllllll.... you know the commenter 'totally' knows what he's talking about, when he's lumping all and any kind of pixelart under the mythical category '8-bit'.

some of those 'critiques' are great comedy material :D
