When we set out to film, it was another New Orleans day. Once you get past the inevitable grime and heat, you feel a certain energy or “atmosphere”. Like a kid throwing himself into a mud fight.

It’s a simple question. And the answers can lead us anywhere. So go ahead, ask yourself…

Visit fiftypeopleonequestion.com and post your response.

We also asked this question in New York, NY. Check it out: vimeo.com/2164626

I'm glad you rebuilt the "irrecoverably corrupted" XML file! It was definitely worth it! Nice work.

Just curious, whats with the fades to greenish-black? Is that something with the compression or was it intentional? (Like at 2:00)
  • Benjamin Reece 1 year ago
Oh, i think i fixed that, does it look okay now (the greenish black)? it was on purpose :)

Great use of the 35mm adapter, If you guys need any more 35mm equipment, i'd be interested in providing it, just to be part of your project.

This is wonderful! You should consider entering it in the Ann Arbor Film Festival. I think it would be a nice fit there: aafilmfest.org/festival/submissions/ They even give a bunch of cash prizes! 46th.aafilmfest.org/events/awards/

As before... Brilliant. I found this touched me in an unexpected way. What all of them were looking for but only one said was happiness. Each of them looked for something to make them happy. So brilliant that you ended with that.

I think it's funny how many of the people in the video seem to be afraid to state any sort of big wish. If a genie appeared and said, "You can have one wish, right now!", would you reply, "Uh... Can I just, like, have a good day?". Never mind wishing for a trillion dollars! Why not wish for a... MILLION dollars!?

    Great job!

I find it curious though that most people wanted something or something done to them. I don't know if I would have given a different answer but it would be nice if someone would have given an answer of what they would like to be able to do to make them a better person by the end of the day. I guess its a mind set of America. Not that anything that some people said were bad but I would like to see how different the answers would be in different parts of the world.

    Ahhh... there's a mission. :)
  • Santi Trujillo 1 year ago
I think this mind is set too out of America... Actually I hope we was wrong
  • Nalts 11 months ago
I am from Minnesota in the U.S. and thought the same thing. The thing is, if someone from a country where the government steals the food supply was asked this question of course their answer would be different.

In much of the "third world" people's main objective is to just stay alive. I think if this was done in any large "Western" city around the world, we'd find that many of the answers would be the same.

For what it's worth, I would wish that Jesus would return to Earth before the end of the day.

    Great comments.

  • Matthew Buchanan plus 1 year ago
Love it, thank you Benjamin. From the look of the tags you edited in Premiere. Could you talk about how you graded it?
  • Benjamin Reece 1 year ago
    Sure man,

I use an intermediate code "Cineform" (trial) to import the footage, then it makes it easy for the processor to handle the footage. I'm not on a fast machine, but it works.

Cineform comes with some simple, but powerful color correction plugins, that allow you to make corrections while not effecting the performance or requiring rendering.

Basiclly, on the shadows, I crushed mostly the reds, but a little but of green and some black.

On the mid tones, i did some tweaks, on the highlights I crushed the reds a bit more. Not much.

Then on the other plugin, I brought up the brightness, because all that crushing reduces the overall visibility of the subjects, then I raised the contrast.

Applied an unsharp mask, 4.1 radius, 50 percent amount.

    Thats about it!
