This is for a screen writing assignment for university. We had to create a 120 second short video storyboard on the concept of 'Zone' - the subtitles are the narration.

    Synopsis
The things which separate us, can also bring us together.

    Themes and Ideas
Originally I was brainstorming with literal meanings of zone i.e. comfort zone, timezone and zone cross country, then I tried some abstract ideas such as the origin of the word ( from the Greeks meaning ‘belt’) In the end I approached zone with a lateral mind, and thought of ways in which to explore what zone is, and how it is used.
Later, I found myself staring at a world map, and was interested in how one thing, (the earth) was divided into so many different regions, i.e. time zones, vegetation areas, war zones and so on. The storyboard, (which is also hosted below via Vimeo) looks at these various zones and how they interact in a simple graphical manner (to make it enjoyable, and suitable for viewing on an iPod screen for example.)

Certain zones such as war zones, separate countries, but then other zones such as time or climate, unite them. By examining and deconstructing this, hopefully viewers would gain a different perspective on how things are structured and segmented in life, and question why this is the case.

(Just to note, the subtitles at the bottom of the screen in grey would be a gentle voice over. Instead of a still sequence of images, I envisage that the video would be similar to Google Earth, with a 3D representation spinning around, morphing through the various zones to make it easier to understand, and visually appealing.)

for this excercise, you were only allowed a still sequence of images (no motion or transitions) and any voice overs, had to be presented as on screen text
