This is great. a question--how'd you achieve the shallow depth of field? And why does it seem like it's miniature set? The angle or light or something seems almost artificial.

Thanks for the comment Ben. I use a series of tilt shift lenses.

There's a company called Lensbaby that makes bellowed lenses for 35mm cameras. This would work if you have a SLR lens mount.
  • Stefan Gilgen plus 1 year ago
Nope, that's not true. Lensbabies won't do the same effect.

You know what's scary...I just finished reading the 5D preview and went to vimeo to see if Vincent Laforet's video was up here...while I was typing the url I imagined how cool it would be to shoot a sequence with a tilt-shift lense...and there was your movie on the front page! lol. Kudos!

Any plans for other Sydney scenes?
  • Keith Loutit plus 1 year ago
    Hi Ed,

Yes - I have 3 collections I'm close to releasing. Weather has been working against me unfortunately but I expect to post something this weekend. Thanks for asking.
  • Ed Macovaz 1 year ago
I know what you mean. The way things are in Sydney at the moment you'd be lucky to have the same weather for an hour.

Look forward to seeing the new vids.
  •

    Hi-

did you use one of the medium format lens hacks floating around to create your effect? one uses a bathroom plunger+medium format lens- or a PB-4 hacked by a japanese guy... what SPECIFIC lens did you use?
i just made one at JFK airport with a lensbaby- but i am unsatisfied with the optics...and i am too poor for the nikon 24mm PC lens, which i gather will not get the radical effect you have achieved so briliiantly...

These videos (and photography - visited your site) make me think of humans as a little infestation or something on the planet earth. It makes me feel weird, looking at these. A new perspective on the way we spend our lives. Utterly fascinating - good job!
