I recently finished this self made camera crane which
has a 3m50 span and a max height of 4m50.
It took me a few weekends to build it, as every minute in the workshop took like 10 minutes of thinking before. And there is still room for improvement, but so far, I'm quite happy with the result.

    Hey,
can you vary the speed of the remote head with the joystick or do you have to set it before with this "sensitivity" poti? I want to build my own remote head (how much was the glide cam one?).

Great video (do you like jazz? check out jazzkomplott.de ;D)!

    Thx, Hannes.
About the Vista head : you can vary
the speed with both the joystick and the potmeter, but the potmeter is more precise. Only problem is you need both hands so moving the crane gets tricky. I bought the remote head second hand on the internet from a german based company, and it works perfect. It's important though to balance the camera correctly.

I used the Homebuilt Stabilizer site as a source of inspiration. Maybe one day I'll make blueprints and
    post the plans there.

Awesome! Are you using a follow focus?
  • SPP 1 year ago
Thx Chris. My DVX is 1st generation, so remote focussing is not possible. I have to shoot in AF mode.

That is absolutely incredible. Respect! I've been thinking about to build my first own steady-cam and I came accross this site by accident. Well, now I'm thinking about a cam-crane. Blame you! :-) Please, for goods sake, tell us how you build it! - Greetings from Berlin-Germany.

I love crane shots! A friend and I are currently building one for my XL2. I've been shooting a lot of video of the process of us making it. Will one day finish the crane and edit all the video. Thanks for posting this.

You said, "I bought the remote head second hand on the internet from a german based company"

I'm curious how much you paid? And do they have a website?

The company is called AF Marcotec. They usually sell new products but I was lucky to find one second hand in mint condition, which was +/- 500 euro less than a new one.

    Great work man!
    Perfect balance etc.
You must share the know how , though!
It would really be awsome to offer the knowledge to people without asking anything in return.
Im only saying this because there are plenty of blueprints available out there that dont provide good quality and are pretty expencive , not to mention hard to find!
    Keep rolling guys!
