This video was made to support the "Eat the View" campaign, a citizen-powered effort started in February 2008 put a kitchen garden back on the White House lawn.

It features me, Roger Doiron, digging a new organic garden on my White House lawn with an invitation to the Obamas to do the same.

After over a year or campaigning, media coverage in over 500 newspapers and media outlets around the world, more than 100,000 signatures on our White House garden petition, and direct contacts with members of First Lady Michelle Obama's staff, we are delighted to learn that our voices have been heard and that the First Family is once again cultivating the First Garden.

Eat the View is a project of the nonprofit group Kitchen Gardeners International. For more info, see:

Along with a Victory Garden, we need to stop cutting our huge lawns every week with mowers that put toxic fumes into the environment. The mower manufacturers should be nudged to clean up their act. Another idea would be to plant native slow-growing grasses (Buffalo Grass in the Midwest) that don't need cutting as often. A great idea for the WH lawn is a llama pet for the kids and eat the grass also (JFK had a horse for the kids).
